This prayer is for the moments when you feel rejected, whether by a friend who stopped calling, a family member who turned away, a job or relationship that ended without explanation, or a quiet sense that you were not chosen. You can pray it when the hurt is fresh, late at night, or on an ordinary morning when the old ache returns. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where they fit.

Prayer When You Feel Rejected

Lord, I feel rejected, and it hurts more than I can easily say. Someone I trusted has pulled away, or I was passed over, or I was left out of a room I thought I belonged in. I keep replaying what I could have done differently, and I wonder if something in me is simply not wanted. Some nights the silence feels louder than any words anyone has said to me.

Father, you know exactly how this feels. You know the sting of being turned away by people you loved, and you know the loneliness that comes with it. Show me the truth about who I am in you, not the story my hurt keeps telling. Help me separate what was my fault from what was never mine to carry, and give me the grace to forgive where forgiveness is needed. Hold my heart gently while I grieve, and remind me that my worth does not rise or fall with another person’s choice.

Take this rejection from my hands, Lord, because I cannot fix it or make anyone return. Walk with me through the days ahead, and let me find my steadiness in your acceptance. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I feel rejected right now and I do not know what to do with the hurt. Remind me that you have not turned away from me, and that you see me clearly. Quiet the voice that says I am unwanted, and help me rest in the love that does not depend on anyone else’s approval. Hold me in this moment, and help me breathe. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 27:10

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

(WEB)

Pray this when your own family or closest people seem to have walked away. It reminds you that God’s care does not fail even when human love does, and you can ask him to be the one who gathers you in.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when the rejection feels like proof that nothing can hold you. Pray it back to God as a list of everything you fear, naming each one and affirming that none of it can separate you from his love.

Isaiah 49:15-16

15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you! 16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. your walls are continually before me.

(WEB)

Use this when you wonder whether anyone remembers you. Pray it as a question to God, asking him to show you that he holds you in view even when people have forgotten to.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to God when the hurt has left you broken in spirit. Ask him to draw near in that very place of crushed feeling, and thank him in advance for the closeness he promises.

1 Peter 2:4

Coming to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel set aside or unvalued. Ask God to help you see yourself as someone he has chosen, and to let that truth steady you even when others have passed you by.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you can be alone for a few minutes, such as early in the morning before the day fills up or in the car before you walk into work. Sit somewhere that feels calm to you, and hold something steady in your hands, like a smooth stone, a mug of warm tea, or the edge of a table. Let the physical weight remind you that you are present and supported as you speak.

If the rejection is still raw, you might pray this with a trusted friend, pastor, or small group who can pray alongside you. Ask them to say the prayer with you, or to pray for you in their own words after you have finished. Sharing the burden with other believers can help the ache feel less like something you must bear alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord, who knows the sting of being turned away, draw close to you today. May you be held by a love that never withdraws and never needs to be earned. May you find your worth settled in the God who chose you, and may peace settle over your heart like evening light.
