This page offers prayers for a caregiver, the person who gives daily help to a spouse, parent, child, or friend who cannot fully manage alone. Pray it in the early morning before the day begins, during a quiet moment at the bedside, or in the car between appointments. You can read the prayer aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayers for a Caregiver

Lord, you see the person I am caring for and you see me. You know the lists I carry in my head: the medications, the appointments, the meals, the bills, the questions I cannot answer yet. Some days my hands are full and my heart is tired. Some nights I lie awake running through what needs to happen tomorrow. Please meet me in that weariness and remind me that I do not have to hold every detail alone.

Give me patience for the repeated questions, the slow mornings, and the moods I did not expect. When I snap or feel resentment rise, forgive me, and soften my heart toward the one I love and toward myself. Give me wisdom for the decisions in front of me, and show me where I can rest without guilt. Let me receive help from others when it is offered, and open my eyes to the people you have already placed nearby.

Strengthen my body and my mind for the work you have given me. Keep me from losing myself in the role, and remind me that I am still your child, loved for who I am and not only for what I do. Let my care be an act of love that reflects your own faithfulness toward us. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am tired and I need you right now. Give me patience for the next hour and strength for the next task. Hold the one I am caring for, and hold me too. Help me take one step at a time, trusting that you are already going before me into this day. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when you feel worn down by the constant demands of care. Tell Jesus the specific things that have drained you, and let the invitation to come to him become your own prayer.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

Use this verse to name the burdens you carry each day. Pray that God would take what you cannot carry, and ask him to sustain you through the parts you must keep holding.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

When progress feels invisible, pray this verse over your faithfulness. Ask God to renew your willingness to keep doing good, even when the results are slow to show.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel you have no strength left. Thank God that his grace is enough for your limits, and ask him to show his power in your weakness.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Bring this promise to God when fatigue has settled deep in your body. Ask him to give strength to the weary, and to give it to you specifically for the next hour of care.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time when you can sit for a few minutes, such as after the evening meds are given or before the house wakes up. Keep a notebook or your phone nearby so you can write down the worries that surface while you pray, then hand each one to God as you finish a line. If your hands are busy with a task, pray silently while you fold laundry, prepare a meal, or drive to an appointment.

Consider asking a friend, pastor, or family member to pray this prayer with you by phone or in person. Shared prayer can lighten the weight and remind you that others carry this with you. Let them pray for you too, so you are not only giving care but also receiving it.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who sees every hidden labor give you rest for your soul and strength for your hands. May he guard your heart from bitterness and fill you with a steady peace. May the one you care for feel the warmth of your love, and may you know that your faithfulness is seen, valued, and held close by God.
