This prayer is for the moments when faith feels thin and trust in God feels like something you have to work up on purpose. You can pray it in the morning before the day gets loud, late at night when worry keeps you awake, or in the middle of a hard conversation or a long wait. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own honest words in where they belong.

Prayers for Faith and Trust

Lord, you know how hard it is for me to believe you are close right now. My mind keeps running ahead to what might go wrong, and I find myself planning, bracing and holding on tightly to things I cannot control. Some days I feel like I am carrying all of it by myself, and I am tired. I bring you the decisions I am facing, the health worries, the money that does not stretch far enough, and the people I love who are hurting.

Help me to remember who you are. Remind me of the times you have been faithful before, even when I could not see how things would work out. Quiet the voice that tells me I am alone or that I have failed you by struggling. Teach me to take one small step of trust today, even if it is only saying your name and asking for help. Give me enough light for the next hour, and trust me to bring you the hour after that.

I choose to trust you with what I cannot fix, and I ask you to strengthen the part of me that wants to believe but feels too weak to do it alone. Thank you for listening, even when my prayers are short and uncertain. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am anxious and I do not know what comes next. I give you this worry right now, and I choose to trust that you see what I cannot see. Steady my heart, quiet my thoughts, and help me take the next step with you beside me. I believe you are faithful, so help my unbelief. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this when your own understanding feels like the only guide you have. Ask God to help you lean on him instead of constantly checking your own plans, and to show you the paths he wants you to walk today.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

Use this verse in the moment fear rises. Name the specific fear out loud, then tell God you choose to put your trust in him as you say the words.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel small or overwhelmed. Thank God for his promise to be with you, and ask him to help you feel that presence in the ordinary tasks of the day.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.

(WEB)

Pray this when faith feels abstract and out of reach. Ask God to give you a clearer sense of what you are hoping for, and to make your confidence in him more solid than your feelings.

Romans 15:13

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

(WEB)

Pray this for the days when joy and peace seem far away. Ask the God of hope to fill you with peace as you trust him, and to let that hope overflow into how you speak and act toward others.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time and place, such as a chair by the window with your coffee before the house wakes up, or the car in the parking lot before you walk into work. Keep a pen nearby and write down any fear or worry the prayer brings to mind, then pray over that line in your notebook. Holding something physical, like a smooth stone or your wedding ring, can help your hands and mind stay in the moment.

You can also pray this prayer with someone you trust. Ask a friend, a spouse, or a member of your church to read it aloud with you, or to pray it for you when you are too tired to speak. Faith often grows in company, and hearing another person ask God for trust can make your own request feel less lonely.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep you steady through every uncertain hour. May he remind you that you are known and loved, and that the ground beneath you is firmer than it feels today. May his peace guard your heart and give you courage for the next step.
