Revelation 14 teaches children that God sees who belongs to Him, and that Jesus stays faithful to His people even when everything around them feels scary. This lesson suits children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

Big Idea

Jesus knows His people and keeps them safe, so we can trust Him and stay close to Him no matter what happens around us.

Memory Verse

Revelation 14:4

These are those who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed by Jesus from among men, the first fruits to God and to the Lamb.

Teach the children to walk in place with their fingers wiggling like they are following someone. Each time they say “follow the Lamb,” have them march three steps forward. This helps them picture following Jesus wherever He leads.

The Story: Revelation 14 for Kids

John was an old follower of Jesus who was living on a faraway island when he had a vision from God. In it he saw a great mountain called Mount Zion, and standing on it was the Lamb, which is a picture of Jesus. With the Lamb were many thousands of people. Each one had the name of God written on their forehead.

Then John heard a sound from heaven, like the rushing of huge waters and loud thunder. It was also like the music of harps being played. Everyone there was singing a brand new song to God. Only the people who belonged to Jesus could learn that song, because it was about how He had rescued them.

Next, John saw three angels flying across the sky, each one bringing a message. The first angel called out, “Fear God and give Him glory, because the time has come for Him to judge the world!” The second angel said that the city called Babylon had fallen. The third angel warned that anyone who chose to worship the beast instead of God would face serious trouble.

Then John heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this down: the people who die trusting the Lord are blessed. They can rest from their hard work, because their good deeds go with them.” John also saw a figure like a son of man sitting on a white cloud, holding a sharp sickle to gather the harvest. Angels came out of God’s temple to help with that important job.

Read It Together

Revelation 14:1

I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a number, one hundred forty-four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads.

(WEB)

Point out that the Lamb is standing on Mount Zion, which is a place of safety and strength. Ask children what it feels like to know Jesus is standing right beside them. Remind them that God always knows exactly who belongs to Him.

Revelation 14:6-7

6 I saw an angel flying in mid heaven, having an eternal Good News to proclaim to those who dwell on the earth, and to every nation, tribe, language, and people. 7 He said with a loud voice, “Fear the Lord, and give him glory; for the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and the springs of waters!”

(WEB)

Show the children that an angel carried good news to everyone on the earth. Explain that God wants all people from every nation to know about Him. Let them know that giving God glory means telling Him how wonderful He is.

Revelation 14:13

I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow with them.”

(WEB)

Point to the words about resting from labors and good works following along. Tell the children that God sees the kind things they do for Him, and He never forgets them. Help them see that God’s love lasts beyond this life.

Talk About It

  • What do you think the new song in heaven sounded like, and how would you feel singing it?
  • How do you think the people on Mount Zion felt knowing Jesus was standing with them?
  • What are some ways you can follow Jesus wherever He leads you this week?
  • Why do you think God wants everyone in every nation to hear His good news?
  • What is one way you can remember that Jesus keeps His people safe when you feel afraid?

Activity Ideas

Lamb on the Mountain Drawing

You will need paper, crayons or markers, and a pencil. Have each child draw a tall mountain with a small lamb standing at the top. Then have them add a few stick figures around the bottom to show the people with Jesus. Let them color the lamb white and give it a golden halo to remind them of Jesus’ care.

Follow the Leader Walk

Clear a space in your room or yard and choose one child to be the leader. The rest of the children follow the leader’s movements, such as marching, hopping, or spinning. Afterward, talk about how following someone you trust is like following Jesus. Make sure everyone gets a turn to lead.

Memory Verse Bookmark

Give each child a strip of cardstock or heavy paper, a pencil, and some stickers. Have them write the memory verse reference on one side and draw a small lamb or mountain on the other. Encourage them to keep the bookmark in their Bible or favorite book. Each time they read, the bookmark will remind them that Jesus is with them.

Teacher Notes

For adults, Revelation 14 speaks of God’s perfect justice and His faithful care for His people. The chapter shows that God knows those who belong to Him and that He will finally make all things right. Adults can take comfort that Jesus stands with His followers and that their faithful lives matter to Him.

Avoid overstating the details of the symbols, such as the exact meaning of the 144,000 or the sickles and grapes, when teaching young children. Focus on the big truths of Jesus’ faithfulness, God’s knowledge of His people, and the call to worship Him. Keep the emphasis on hope and trust rather than fear.

A Prayer to Close

Lord Jesus, thank You for standing with us and knowing each one of us by name. Help us follow You wherever You lead, even when we feel scared. Thank You that You keep Your people safe and give them rest. Help us tell others about You with joy. Amen.
