This short morning prayer is for asking God to bind your household together before the day pulls everyone in different directions. Pray it while the coffee brews, before the first alarm, or in the car on the way to work or school. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about the people you love.

Short Morning Prayer for Family Unity

Lord, thank You for this new morning and for the people who share my home. Before anyone is awake or rushing out the door, I ask You to be present in our house. Soften the hard places between us, the sharp words from last night and the silence that has settled in since. Help each of us wake up ready to be patient, kind and quick to listen. Guard our hearts against bitterness and our tongues against cutting remarks.

Be with each person I will see today. Go before my spouse, my children, and anyone else I live with, and give them what they need for the hours ahead. Where we have drifted apart, draw us back together. Where pride has built walls, give us the humility to take the first step toward one another. Let our home be a place of peace that others notice when they walk in.

I give You this day and this family. Help me to be the kind of person who brings unity rather than division, and who forgives as quickly as I hope to be forgiven. Keep us close to You and close to each other. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, go before our family today. Calm the rush of the morning, soften the tone of every conversation, and help us love one another in small, ordinary ways. Give me a gentle word for the person I am closest to, and let the way I speak and act show them that we are on the same side. Keep us united in You. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 133:1

See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!

(WEB)

Read this slowly and then pray that your family would find the goodness and pleasantness of living together in harmony. Ask God to make unity something you actually experience at the breakfast table, not just an ideal.

Ephesians 4:2-3

2 With all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love; 3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

(WEB)

Paul names humility, gentleness, patience and bearing with one another as the means of keeping unity. Pray these qualities into your morning, asking God to supply them before the first disagreement comes.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Forgiveness is what keeps a family from fracturing over small offenses. Ask God to show you where you need to release someone today and to help others release you as well.

Romans 12:18

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

(WEB)

Paul acknowledges that peace is not always entirely in our control, but he calls us to do our part. Pray for the wisdom to pursue peace in each conversation you have with the people in your home.

Philippians 2:2

Make my joy full, by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind…

(WEB)

Unity of mind and purpose grows when people share a common love and direction. Pray that your household would be knit together around Christ and his love, so that the day ahead serves that shared life.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a fixed moment in your morning, such as while the kettle heats or before you open your phone, so the prayer becomes a habit rather than an occasional effort. Keep a cup or a Bible on the kitchen table as a visible reminder. If your hands are busy with breakfast or lunches, let them stay busy and pray as you work, naming each family member as you set out their plate or fill their water bottle.

If your spouse, a child, or a friend in your household is willing, invite them to pray a line or two with you. Even a brief shared prayer can shift the tone of the morning. If you are praying alone for a family that is not yet of one heart, keep praying anyway. God hears the prayers of one faithful person as surely as the prayers of many.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your family and keep you. May He make His face shine upon your home and give each person under your roof a heart at rest with the others. May the peace of Christ rule in your hearts today, and may your love for one another grow as the day unfolds.
