This short prayer is for asking God to bless the people you live among, the neighbors, friends, coworkers and church family who share your streets, schools and daily routines. Pray it when you step outside in the morning, while driving past a neighbor’s house, or whenever a local need comes to mind. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Short Prayer for My Community
Lord, you know every street and household where I live. I bring my community before you today, the families up early for work, the children walking to school, the older neighbors who might be lonely, and the people carrying quiet worries I will never hear about. Please protect the places we gather, from the corner store to the park to the church hall, and let your peace settle over them. Give us patience with one another when tempers are short, and humility when we disagree.
Father, I ask for practical kindness to show up in our streets. Open our eyes to the person who needs a ride, a meal, or a listening ear, and give me the courage to act when you prompt me. Heal those who are sick, comfort those who are grieving, and provide for those who are out of work or struggling to pay the bills. Strengthen the leaders, teachers, and volunteers who serve us, and guard them from burnout. Help us to be a community that notices, cares, and returns to you together.
Thank you for placing me among these people. Make me a good neighbor, one who speaks truthfully, forgives quickly, and points others toward your love. May our community reflect your faithfulness to the next generation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, bless the people around me. Watch over my neighbors, my friends at work, and the families at our school. Bring healing to those who are hurting and provision to those who lack. Make me generous with my time and gentle in my words, and draw our community closer to you. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find the early morning works well, before the day fills up, perhaps at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee or while walking the dog around the block. As you pray, let your eyes move toward the windows or the street, and picture the houses and faces you are naming. If a particular neighbor or local concern comes to mind, pause and pray for that person by name before continuing.
This prayer also works well with others. Invite a spouse, a small group, or your household to read it together, taking turns with each paragraph. Afterward, consider writing down one practical step you can take this week, such as checking on an elderly neighbor, bringing a meal to a family in need, or joining a local volunteer effort.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless the people of this community and keep them safe in their coming and going. May he make his face shine upon the families, workers, and children who live here, and give them peace that holds steady through every season. May the good work of love be seen among them, and may your neighbors see Christ in the way you care for them.
