This short prayer is for the moment when you are worried about your mother or father, or both, and need to place their health in God’s hands. You can pray it in the morning before the day starts, in the car before a doctor’s appointment, or late at night when sleep will not come. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words about the people you love.

Short Prayer for My Parents’ Health

Father, I come to You today with my mom and dad on my heart. You know every ache they carry, every test result they are waiting on, and every night they lie awake wondering what the doctor will say. I ask You to be near them in their bodies and their fears. Strengthen their hearts, ease their pain, and give their doctors wisdom and steady hands.

Lord, I also ask for peace for me. Keep me from anxiety that takes over my thoughts, and help me to be the daughter or son they need, patient, present, and kind. Give them rest when they are tired, comfort when they are hurting, and good days to hold onto. Let them feel how much they are loved by You and by the people around them.

Thank You that You never grow weary and never miss a moment of our suffering. I trust You with my parents’ health, now and in the days ahead. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my parents are in Your care. Be near them today and heal what needs healing. Give their doctors wisdom and give them strength for each hour. Calm my worried heart and help me trust You with what I cannot control. Thank You that You hear me and that You love them more than I ever could. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

Use this verse to thank God that He is the one who binds up wounds, both in the body and in the heart. Speak it over your mother and father by name, asking Him to tend to the places where they hurt.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Pray this when fear rises about test results or hospital stays. Let the promise of God’s presence and strength steady you, and ask Him to remind your parents that they are not alone.

Psalm 121:1-2

1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

(WEB)

Lift your eyes as you pray these lines, looking beyond the hospital walls or the doctor’s office to the Lord who made heaven and earth. Ask Him to be the source of help your parents turn to each day.

James 5:15

And the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

(WEB)

This verse speaks of prayer offered in faith for the sick. Bring your parents to God in prayer, trusting Him to act in His wisdom and timing, whatever the outcome.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

When worry about your parents starts to crowd out everything else, pray this passage slowly. Bring each concern to God with thanksgiving, and ask Him to guard your heart with His peace.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time, such as the first cup of coffee in the morning or the quiet minutes before bed, so the prayer becomes a steady habit rather than something you remember only in a crisis. If you can, pray it sitting at the kitchen table or beside a photo of your parents, and let your hands rest open in your lap or hold a small object that reminds you of them.

Invite others to pray with you. Ask a sibling, a close friend, or your parents’ church to pray the same words on a set day each week, and tell them specific updates so they can pray with more clarity. Shared prayer lightens the load and reminds you that your parents are carried by a whole community.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your mother and father and keep them in His care. May He give them strength for each day, comfort in each night, and a sense of His nearness that no illness can take away. May He give you peace as you walk beside them, and may you know that your love and prayers are a gift from God.
