This is a morning prayer for the friends in your life, the ones you will see, call, or think about as the day unfolds. Pray it when you first wake, while coffee is brewing, or in the car before you start the day, and read it aloud exactly as written or use it as a starting point for your own words.
Morning Prayer for My Friends
Lord, I come to you before the day gets loud. Thank you for the friends you have placed in my life, the people who laugh with me, pick up the phone when I call, and tell me the truth when I need it. Some of them are carrying things this morning that I may not see: a diagnosis they are waiting on, a job that feels uncertain, a marriage under strain, a child who is struggling, or a grief that still catches them off guard. Be near to each one of them today. Give them rest where they are weary and courage where they are afraid.
Father, go before my friends into the hours ahead. Steady the one who has a hard meeting, a difficult conversation, or a deadline that feels impossible. Comfort the one who woke up alone with sadness. Give wisdom to the friend making a decision that will shape years to come. Where I have been slow to reach out, help me notice who needs a word, a text, a meal, or simply my presence. Keep me from being so busy with my own list that I walk past the people you have asked me to love. Let my friends feel your nearness through the ordinary kindnesses I offer them today.
Lord, I also ask that you would guard the friendships themselves. Teach us to speak gently, to forgive quickly, and to listen longer than we want to. Where there is distance between us, bring about honesty and reconciliation in your time. Thank you that you know each of my friends by name and that nothing about their day is hidden from you. Hold them, and hold me, as we go out into this new day together. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, it is morning, and my friends are already on my mind. Go with them today. Give them strength for what they must face, peace where they feel anxious, and a sense of your closeness in every ordinary moment. Help me to be a faithful friend, quick to listen and slow to judge, and let my words and my time bring them encouragement. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this prayer while you are still in bed, before reaching for your phone, or while you make your first cup of coffee. A simple habit helps: keep a short list of friends by name on a card near the kitchen sink or on the notes app you open first. As you pray, pause after each name and let the face of that person come to mind. If you are in the car, pray it aloud at a red light or before you turn the key.
This prayer also works well shared with a spouse, a roommate, or a small group that meets for breakfast or a weekly call. Each person can take a few friends and pray the main section for them, then close together with the blessing. If you have a friend who is walking through a particularly hard season, consider sending them a short text saying you prayed for them this morning. Naming the prayer out loud to the person it concerns can strengthen the bond between you.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless each friend you think of today and keep them in his care. May he make his face shine upon them and give them peace for the hours ahead. May they know they are seen, loved, and remembered by the God who never sleeps, and may you be a light to them in the ordinary moments of this day.
