A night prayer for the sick gives you words to bring a suffering person before God as the day ends and the house goes quiet. Pray it at bedtime, beside a sickbed, or in the hours when worry keeps you awake. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words where your heart leads.
Night Prayer for the Sick
Lord, the day is ending, and the one who is sick is still carrying pain into the night. You know every ache, every fever, every restless hour that keeps them from sleep. I bring them to you now, asking that you would be close to them in the dark. Let the medicine do its work, and let their body find whatever rest it can tonight. Where there is fear, replace it with your peace.
I also bring you the people who are tired from caring for them. Give strength to the one who sits up with them, who counts the doses and watches the monitor and does not want to fall asleep. Give the family wisdom for tomorrow’s decisions and patience for today’s frustrations. Remind them that they are not alone, and that you are keeping watch even when they cannot.
Thank you for every small mercy from this day: a kind word from a nurse, a cup of water, a moment of laughter, the sound of someone they love. Keep them safe through the night, guard their breathing, and wake them gently to a morning of hope. Hold them in your hands, Father, until the light comes. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, you see the one who is sick tonight. Ease their pain, calm their fear, and give them rest. Be near to the ones keeping watch beside them, and grant them strength for the hours ahead. Thank you for your faithfulness, which does not sleep. Keep them safe until morning. Amen.

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

How to Pray This Prayer
Pray this prayer near the end of the day, once the medications are given and the room is as quiet as it will get. Sit close to the bed if you can, and hold the sick person’s hand or rest your hand lightly on their arm while you speak. Physical touch can steady both of you and remind you that God’s care also comes through the people who love us.
If you cannot be in the room, pray it from the kitchen table, from the car, or from your own bed with a phone or a written copy in hand. Invite another person to pray it with you, or ask them to pray it in their own home at the same hour. Two people agreeing in prayer across a distance can strengthen the same night for the one who is sick.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless and keep the one who is sick tonight, and may his face shine warmly upon them. May he give them rest that restores body and spirit, and may he surround the ones who care for them with patience and courage. May the morning bring them new strength and a grateful heart.
