This page offers prayers for physical healing, written for anyone facing illness, injury, chronic pain, surgery recovery, or worry about a body that is not working the way it should. Pray them when you are waiting for test results, sitting beside a sick child or parent, lying awake in pain, or simply feeling the weight of a diagnosis. You can read the main prayer aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words to God in the same spirit.

Prayers for Physical Healing

Lord, you know my body better than I do. You know every ache, every sleepless hour, every test I am dreading and every symptom I have tried to explain to a doctor. I bring my health to you today, and I ask for your healing hand. Where there is pain, bring relief. Where there is infection, inflammation, or damage, bring restoration. Give the doctors and nurses wisdom, steady hands, and good judgment, and let the treatments I receive work the way they are meant to.

I also bring you the fear that comes with being unwell. I worry about what the future holds, about how I will manage my work and my family, and about whether I will ever feel like myself again. Quiet that fear. Remind me that you are present in the waiting room, in the recovery bed, and in the long nights when I cannot sleep. Give me patience for the slow parts of healing and gratitude for the small improvements along the way. Whatever the outcome, let me trust that I am held by you. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my body is hurting and I need you right now. Touch the place that aches, calm the fear rising in me, and strengthen what is weak. Guide the people caring for me and let the care I receive do its work. Help me rest in your presence even while I wait for healing. I trust you with my health today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 103:2-3

2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits; 3 who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases…

(WEB)

David calls his own soul to remember the benefits of God, and healing sits right beside forgiveness on that list. When you pray this, name specific diseases or symptoms and thank God that he is the one who heals.

Jeremiah 17:14

Heal me, O the LORD, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise.

(WEB)

Jeremiah brings his pain directly to the Lord and asks for healing and deliverance. Use his honest words to say what you need, admitting your weakness before God rather than hiding it.

James 5:14-15

14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, 15 and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

(WEB)

James points to prayer offered in faith, along with the community of the church, as part of how the sick are cared for. Pray this passage for yourself, and consider asking a trusted believer to pray with you.

Isaiah 53:5

But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.

(WEB)

This verse describes the suffering servant bearing wounds and bringing healing to others. Let it remind you that God understands suffering from the inside, and pray in gratitude for the one through whom healing has come.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

The psalmist describes God as one who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Pray this verse slowly, naming the wounds you carry, both physical and emotional, and asking God to bind them up.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray for healing first thing in the morning, before the day’s demands begin, or in the evening when pain tends to feel heavier. Sit somewhere quiet where you will not be interrupted, and keep a glass of water or a box of tissues nearby. You might also rest one hand on the part of your body that hurts as you pray, a simple gesture that ties your words to the place they concern.

If you are praying for someone else, read the prayer aloud at their bedside or over the phone, and invite them to add their own words. Writing the prayer in a notebook and returning to it each day can also help you notice how God is working over time, even when the healing is gradual.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who heals be near to you in every hour of pain and every hour of waiting. May he give strength to your body, peace to your mind, and courage to your heart. May you feel his steady presence and know that you are never alone in what you face.
