This morning prayer is for the brothers and sisters in your life, whether they share your home, live across the country, or have not spoken to you in years. Pray it when you first wake up, before the phone and the group chat pull your attention away, or during your morning coffee as you think about the people you will see or speak to today. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own sibling’s name and needs into the words.

Morning Prayers for Siblings

Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of family. Thank you for the siblings you have placed in my life, the ones who knew me as a child, who remember the house we grew up in, and who understand parts of my story no one else does. Be with each of them today. Where they are rushing to work, getting children ready for school, or sitting alone with worry, give them a steady sense of your presence before the first hard thing arrives.

Father, I ask you to guard our relationship from resentment and old hurts. Where we have said careless words or stayed silent when we should have spoken, soften my heart and theirs. Help me to be quick to listen and slow to take offense. If there is a conversation we need to have, give me the courage and gentleness to begin it, and give them the same grace. Let today be a day where love shows up in small, ordinary ways. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, bless my brothers and sisters this morning. Go before them into their work, their conversations, and their quiet hours. Protect them from harm, comfort them where they are struggling, and keep our hearts close even when we are far apart. Help me to show them patience and kindness today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Genesis 4:9

The LORD said to Cain, “Where is Abel, your brother?” He said, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”

(WEB)

This is the question God asked Cain after his brother Abel was harmed. Pray it with honesty, asking God to make you someone who cares about your sibling’s wellbeing and does not treat them as a burden or a rival.

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for the siblings who have been steady through hard seasons. Thank God for their loyalty, and ask Him to help you be that kind of presence for them when they need you most.

Romans 12:10

In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate to one another; in honor preferring one another…

(WEB)

Paul encourages believers to be devoted to one another in love and to honor others above themselves. Ask God to make your affection for your siblings practical and real, showing up in attention, warmth, and respect.

Ephesians 4:2-3

2 With all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love; 3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

(WEB)

These verses describe humility, gentleness, and patience as the basis for keeping peace. Pray that God would produce those qualities in you before any disagreement arises today, so that unity can be protected rather than repaired.

1 John 4:21

This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother.

(WEB)

John says that loving God and loving our brothers and sisters belong together. Pray that your love for God would overflow into how you treat your siblings this morning, especially the ones who are hardest to love.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer at the same point each morning, perhaps while the kettle is heating or before you open your phone. Sitting on the edge of your bed or standing at the kitchen window with your hands wrapped around a warm mug can help your body settle into the words. If you have a sibling you are praying for by name, consider keeping a small note in your Bible or on your bathroom mirror with their name and one specific need, so you remember them each day.

You might also invite a spouse, a close friend, or a parent to pray this prayer with you, especially if your family is going through a difficult season. Praying together over the phone or by sending a short text afterward can keep you connected to each other and to the people you love. Let this prayer be a place to begin, and trust God to meet your siblings in ways you could not plan.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless each of your brothers and sisters and keep them safe today. May He make His face shine on them and give them peace that does not depend on circumstances. May the bond you share grow stronger with time, and may each of them feel loved, known, and held by God and by you.
