This morning prayer is written for an expectant mother who wants to begin her day by placing the coming hours, her body, and the baby in God’s hands. Pray it as soon as you wake or while you sit with your first cup of tea, before the appointments, errands, and work of the day crowd in. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayers for an Expectant Mother

Lord, I wake up carrying a life I cannot see yet, and I bring this new day to you. Be near to me as my body changes and tires, and give me rest where I need it and strength for what I must do. Steady my thoughts when fear about the birth or the months ahead starts to rise before I have even got out of bed. Help me remember that the baby is already known to you, and that you were forming this child long before I knew they were there.

Go ahead of me into today’s appointments, conversations, and small tasks. Give me patience with my partner, my family, my coworkers, and anyone who tries to tell me what I should be feeling or doing. Where I am anxious about money, the room, the doctor, or the unknown, take those worries from my hands and hold them for me. Let me eat what nourishes us both, drink enough water, and stop when I need to stop. Keep both of us safe today, and let me sense your peace when I need it most. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am carrying this child, and today I am carrying a lot besides. Hold us both in the middle of this morning. Calm my heart, give me strength for the next task, and remind me that you are with me in every hour. Protect the baby and give me trust that you care for us both. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 139:13-14

13 For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

(WEB)

Pray these words over the child you are carrying, thanking God that the baby was knit together with care and intention. Let the truth of being wonderfully made quiet your fears about the body and the pregnancy this morning.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and let each promise land on a specific worry you carry into the day. Ask God to be your strength in the tasks you know are coming, and the one who holds you steady when you feel unsteady.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Bring the anxieties of this pregnancy into prayer one by one, naming each concern out loud. Thank God in the same breath, and ask for the peace that goes beyond understanding to guard your heart and mind.

Psalm 121:2-3

2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber.

(WEB)

Use this verse to remember where your help comes from on a day when your energy feels thin. Ask the Lord to keep your feet steady on stairs, in traffic, and in the quiet moments when you are on your own.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this as a reminder that God’s mercy is new each morning, including this one. Ask for fresh compassion for yourself on the days when pregnancy has made you feel unlike your usual self.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a fixed spot where you can sit comfortably before the day begins, perhaps by a window, at the kitchen table, or on the edge of the bed with a pillow behind your back. Keep a glass of water nearby, and rest one hand on your belly as you pray, since that small gesture can turn a set of words into a shared moment with the baby. If you feel rushed, read only the shorter version and return to the longer one later in the day.

Invite your partner, a close friend, or a family member to pray this with you, or to pray it for you on days when you cannot find the words. Some expectant mothers keep a printed copy on the fridge or in their bag so the prayer is ready at the midday appointment or during a long drive. Let the prayer shape your morning, and let it be enough if you only manage a few sentences.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before this mother and her child today, guarding them in each step and steadying them in every hour. May she know rest in her body, courage in her heart, and the quiet assurance that she is not alone in what lies ahead.
