This is a morning prayer for an important decision: a job offer, a move, a marriage question, a big purchase, or a choice that will shape the coming months. Pray it as you wake up or before you sit down to the day’s work, and read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where they fit your situation better.

Morning Prayers for an Important Decision

Lord, I wake up this morning with a decision sitting on my chest like a stone. I have turned it over in the night and I still cannot see the whole road. Some of the options look good and some frighten me, and I keep changing my mind between breakfast and bedtime. Today I do not ask you for every answer at once. I ask you for the next honest step, and for the wisdom to recognize it when it comes.

Give me a calm mind before I open my phone, a steady heart before the first conversation, and clear eyes for the facts in front of me. Keep me from deciding out of fear, from pride, or from the need to please people who will not be the ones living with the result. Show me where I am hiding behind excuses, and where I am rushing past good counsel. Let the people I trust speak honestly today, and help me listen to them.

Whatever I choose, let me choose it in the open, with you. If the answer is yes, give me courage without arrogance. If the answer is no or not yet, give me patience and no bitterness. I trust that you know the end from the beginning, and that you are not surprised by anything I face today. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I need your direction on this decision and I need it now. Quiet the noise in my head, slow my pulse, and show me the one step I can take today. Keep my heart honest about what I want and what I fear. Help me trust your timing more than my urgency. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray these words slowly when you feel pulled toward your own cleverness. Ask God to reveal the places where you are leaning on what you already think you know, and to make your paths straight as you take the next step.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

When you feel foolish for not knowing what to do, pray this verse as a promise and a request. Ask for wisdom plainly, without apologizing for needing it, and expect that God gives it generously.

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

(WEB)

Read this as God speaking to you directly this morning. Ask him to guide you with his eye, and to keep you close enough that you notice his nudges before you hear the loud voices of worry.

Psalm 25:4-5

4 Show me your ways, the LORD. Teach me your paths. 5 Guide me in your truth, and teach me, For you are the God of my salvation, I wait for you all day long.

(WEB)

Use this psalm as a prayer of humble asking. Name the specific choice in front of you and ask God to teach you his ways in that exact situation, trusting that he is the one who leads.

Isaiah 30:21

And when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”

(WEB)

Pray this when the options feel like a fork in the road. Ask God to make his voice audible in the ordinary moments of your day, so that you can recognize the direction he is giving before you reach the next turn.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying it in the first quiet minutes of your morning, before you check messages or start the day’s tasks. Sit somewhere you can be still, with a cup of something warm in your hands or a pen and paper nearby. Writing down the decision and the two or three things you fear most can help the prayer feel concrete rather than vague.

If you are married or have a close friend who knows the situation, ask them to pray the same words over you, or to pray for you in their own way. Tell them what the decision is and what you would like to be true by the end of the week. Then return to this prayer each morning until the choice is made, and note any peace, clarity, or confirmation that arrives along the way.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord give you a clear mind and a steady heart for the choices ahead. May he guide your feet toward what is good, and may he keep you at peace whichever door he opens. The God who has been faithful before will be faithful in this decision too.
