This morning prayer is for parents and caregivers who want to bring their child’s friendships before God at the start of the day. Pray it over breakfast, at the bus stop, or in the quiet minutes before your child wakes. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayers for Children’s Friendships

Father, this morning I bring my child’s friendships to You before the day begins. You know the names of every classmate, teammate and neighbor they will see today, and You know which of those relationships feel warm and which feel tense or uncertain. I ask You to go ahead of them to the lunchroom, the playground and the bus ride home. Give them good sense about who to trust and who to be kind to, and help them notice a friend who is sitting alone.

Lord, I also pray for the hard moments I cannot see from here. If someone teases, excludes or hurts them today, let them remember that they are known and loved by You. Quiet their fears about being left out, and steady their heart when a friend is busy or unkind. Where they need courage to speak up or to say sorry, give them the words and the willingness. Make them a friend who listens well, shares freely and forgives quickly.

Thank You for the friends You have already given. Bless the families who open their homes to my child, and the teachers and coaches who help build good community around them. Keep my own heart patient and encouraging when they come home with stories, happy or sad. Help me point them back to You in every friendship. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my child is about to walk into a day full of people. Go with them into every conversation and every game. Give them a kind heart, a listening ear and the courage to be a good friend. Protect them from unkindness, and help them show kindness to someone who needs it. Thank You that You never leave them, even when friends are not around. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for your child by asking God to make them a faithful friend who stays close in good times and hard ones. Ask Him to show them who in their life is loyal, and to give them steady love for others in return.

Proverbs 18:24

A man of many companions may be ruined, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

(WEB)

Use this verse to ask God to help your child choose friends who are good for them and to become someone others can count on. Pray that they would have at least one friend who sticks closer than a brother or sister.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up.

(WEB)

This passage speaks of how two are better than one. Pray that your child would find encouragement and help in their friendships, and that they would be ready to lift up a friend who has fallen.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do.

(WEB)

Pray that your child would build others up with their words and actions. Ask God to make their friendships places where encouragement flows freely, both given and received.

Colossians 3:12-13

12 Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Ask God to clothe your child with compassion, kindness and patience this morning. Pray that they would bear with friends when things go wrong and forgive as the Lord has forgiven them.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time, such as breakfast, the walk to the car or the minute before school starts. Keep a small reminder near the kitchen table or the car keys so the prayer becomes a habit. If your child is old enough, pray with them and let them name a friend they are thinking about that day.

Your hands can help you pray too. Hold a photo of your child or a note with their friends’ names while you speak. You might also invite a grandparent, a small group or your spouse to pray the same words over your child, so that the whole family carries their friendships together.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before your child today and walk beside them in every friendship. May they be kind, honest and brave, and may they feel truly seen by the One who made them. Go in peace, knowing that God is faithful to them all day long.
