These morning prayers for my community are written for the first part of your day, when you are still holding your coffee and thinking about the people you will see before night falls. Pray the main prayer below as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own names and needs into it. It works best in the quiet before the house wakes or on your commute.
Morning Prayers for My Community
Lord, I come to you before the day starts to pick up speed. Thank you for this new morning and for the people who share this place with me: the neighbor who waves from the driveway, the cashier at the corner store, the teacher at the school gate, the coworkers who will fill my hours. Be present in each of those meetings. Give me patience when the line is long and kindness when someone is short with me. Help me notice who is struggling today, the single mother juggling two jobs, the older man who has not left his house in a week, the family on our street waiting on test results or a court date.
Father, guard our community from the things that tear it apart: gossip, suspicion, and the quiet indifference that lets people fall through the cracks. Stir up generosity in those who have room to give, and courage in those who need to speak up for someone who cannot. Bless the leaders who make decisions for us and the volunteers who show up without being asked. Let my hands and my words be useful to you today. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, before this day gets busy, I ask you to bless the people around me. Go before me to the people I will meet and behind me to those I have already left. Help me to see the one who needs encouragement and to speak a word that builds up rather than tears down. Protect our neighborhood, our workplaces, and our families. Make me a faithful neighbor today. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying the main prayer while you are still at the kitchen table or on your porch, before you check your phone. Keep a pen nearby and jot down one or two names from your street, church or workplace who came to mind. Carry that list with you through the day and pray for each person when you pass them or think of them.
If you have a spouse, housemate or friend who prays with you, read the prayer together and take turns adding a need for your community. You can also pray it on a walk around your block, letting each house you pass become a reminder to pray for the people inside.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before each person in your community today and make his face shine upon them. May he give them strength for their work, peace in their homes, and friends who show up when it matters. May he make you a steady presence in their lives as they walk with him through this day.
