This morning prayer is for the journey ahead, the trip you are about to take and the stretch of days that lie before you. Pray it first thing, while the house is still quiet, before the phone and the to-do list take over. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart needs to go further.
Morning Prayer for the Journey Ahead
Lord, I start this day by handing you the road in front of me. I know the drive to work, the meetings I am dreading, the errand I keep putting off, and the conversation I have been trying not to think about. You already know every turn of it. Go before me into each hour, and make my steps steady when I feel rushed or unsure.
Father, I bring you the people I will see today: the coworker who is struggling, the child who needs patience, the friend who has been quiet lately, and the stranger I will pass without knowing their name. Give me eyes to notice them and a kind word when one is needed. Where I am tired or short-tempered, supply what I lack. Guard my mouth, guard my thoughts, and keep me from carrying yesterday’s worries into today’s work.
I also ask for wisdom for the decisions waiting on me, big or small. Show me what to say yes to and what to set down. Let my plans stay open to your leading, and when things go sideways, let me remember that nothing has caught you by surprise. Thank you for going ahead of me and for staying with me all the way through. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, you are already on the road ahead of me. Walk with me through the traffic, the calls, and the hard conversations. Give me patience with the people I meet, and wisdom for the next choice in front of me. Keep my heart steady and my hands useful. I trust you with this day. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Pray it before you check your messages or start the coffee, sitting in the same chair each day if you can. Keep a pen nearby and write down any names or tasks that come to mind while you pray, then hand them over to God as you read the next line. If you are driving to work, you can pray the shorter version at a red light or while you buckle your seatbelt.
Ask someone in your household or a close friend to pray it for you on a day when you feel especially anxious about what lies ahead. Many people find it helpful to pray it together over breakfast or in a short phone call before a big day. The words stay the same, but hearing them spoken by another person can make God’s care feel closer and more personal.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you and stay beside you in every hour of this day. May he keep your steps steady, your heart at rest, and your words kind. Wherever the road leads, may you know that you are seen, known, and held by a God who does not leave his people on their own. Go in peace.
