This morning prayer is for the moment you wake up already tired of trying, when the day ahead looks like more of the same hard work and waiting. Pray it first thing, before the phone and the to-do list take over, and read it aloud as written or use it as a starting point for your own words. Either way, it asks God for steady strength to keep going today.

Morning Prayer for Perseverance

Lord, I am awake, and I already feel the weight of what this day asks of me. There is the work that is not finished, the conversation I have been dreading, and the same struggle that showed up yesterday and will probably show up again. Before I reach for anything else, I bring it all to you. Give me enough strength for this one day, and help me stop trying to carry next week in my arms.

Father, when I grow discouraged, remind me that you have been faithful through every hard morning before this one. Keep my hands steady for the tasks in front of me, and keep my heart patient with the people I will meet: the coworker who frustrates me, the child who needs one more reminder, the friend who is struggling too. Let me take the next honest step instead of demanding a finished story. Teach me to keep going without pretending I am not tired. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am tired before the day has begun. Give me the strength for the next hour, and then the hour after that. Keep me faithful in the small things I must do, and help me not to quit on what you have called me to. Be my steadiness today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you are tempted to give up on something good. Ask God to keep you from growing weary in the ordinary work of doing right, and trust that the harvest he has promised is not measured by how quickly it arrives.

Romans 5:3-4

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope…

(WEB)

Use this passage to connect your hard days with the character God is shaping in you. Ask him to help you see endurance as a place he is working, not just a burden you must survive.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Bring this promise into your morning as a picture of renewed strength. Ask the Lord to lift you up from weariness so that you can walk through the day without collapsing under it.

Hebrews 12:1

Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us…

(WEB)

Read this verse as an invitation to run your own race, one step at a time. Pray that God would help you lay aside what slows you down today and keep your eyes fixed on him.

Psalm 46:1-2

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas…

(WEB)

Pray these verses when the day feels unsteady. Thank God that he is your refuge and strength, present with you in whatever trouble the morning brings, and ask him to make you calm in his nearness.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this before you check your messages or start the coffee, sitting at the kitchen table or on the edge of your bed while the house is still quiet. If your hands feel restless, hold a cup of something warm or open a notebook and write down the one task you most dread today. Let the prayer name that task out loud, so that God is invited into the specific thing rather than the vague feeling of being overwhelmed.

You can also pray this with someone who is walking a long road beside you, such as a spouse, a close friend, or a small group. Ask them to pray the blessing back over you later in the day, or text them one line from the prayer. Perseverance is easier when you are not carrying it by yourself, and a shared morning prayer can remind both of you that you are still in this together.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord strengthen you for the work he has given you today. May he steady your steps when the road feels long, and give you patience with yourself and with the people around you. May you rest in his faithfulness and find that the next faithful step is enough.
