This morning prayer is for anyone starting a new job, beginning a first week in an unfamiliar office, or stepping into a role that still feels like it belongs to someone else. Pray it before you leave the house, while you are still getting ready, or in the car on the way in. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words in where your heart needs them.
Morning Prayer for a New Job
Lord, I wake up this morning carrying something new. There is a name I have to learn, a building I do not know yet, and a list of tasks that still feels longer than my memory. Some part of me is afraid I will get things wrong, or that someone will discover I do not really know what I am doing. Hold that fear for me and show me where it is only nerves and where it is a warning I should listen to.
Father, give me a steady mind for the hours ahead. When I meet my new manager, my coworkers, and the people who will depend on my work, let me listen more than I talk and ask good questions instead of pretending to know everything. Help me remember that I was hired for a reason, and that you knew about this job long before I did. Where I am slow to learn, make me patient with myself. Where I am quick to judge, make me generous.
Lord, I ask you to go ahead of me today. Open the right doors, guard my words, and let my work be honest and careful, even in small things no one notices. If I make a mistake, let me own it and learn from it without shame. And when the day is done, let me come home knowing I walked through it with you. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am starting something new and I feel unsure of myself. Be near me as I walk in today. Give me calm when I am nervous, patience when I am slow to learn, and kindness toward the people I work beside. Help me do my work with care, and let me trust that you are with me in every hour of it. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a moment that is yours before the day gets loud, such as while the coffee brews, in the shower, or sitting in your car for a minute before you go inside. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each paragraph to let the words settle. If you have a notebook or a note on your phone, write down one thing you want to ask God for that day, and read it again before you leave.
If you are praying for someone who is starting a new job, such as a child, a spouse, or a friend, you can pray this prayer on their behalf by changing the “I” to their name or to “we.” You might also ask a trusted friend or small group to pray for you at the same time each week during your first month, so you know you are being held by others as well as by God.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you into every new room and every unfamiliar task. May he give you steady hands, a teachable heart, and the courage to ask for help when you need it. And may you walk into this work knowing that you are known, guided, and loved.
