This morning prayer is for anyone who wakes up already carrying a knot of worry about money, health, work, family, or the day’s unknowns. Pray it first thing, before the phone lights up with messages, while the house is still quiet. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own worries in your own words.

Morning Prayers for the Worried

Lord, I am awake, and already my mind has started running ahead of me. I think about the bills that need paying, the call I have been dreading, the test results or the tone in someone’s voice that I cannot stop replaying. Before I open my eyes to the list, I want to bring it to you. You know every item on it, and nothing on it has caught you off guard.

Be with me in the specific places I will be today. Steady my hands at the kitchen counter, my patience with the people I love who need me, and my focus in the hours when I have to work or make decisions. Where I am tempted to picture the worst, gently turn my thoughts toward what is true and what is in front of me right now. Give me enough strength for this one day, and trust me to meet tomorrow when it comes.

I release the things I cannot control into your hands, and I ask you to show me the one faithful step I can take before lunch. Quiet the noise in my chest so that I can hear you over it. Thank you that I do not have to carry the whole week in my first hour. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my heart is racing before the coffee is even made. I give you the worry I woke up with, and I give you the day I am about to walk into. Help me take one breath at a time, and help me do the next thing well. Remind me that you are awake and attentive, and that I am not alone in what I face today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul names worry directly and then points to prayer with thanksgiving as the way to bring it out of your hands and into God’s. Read it slowly on mornings when your anxiety feels loud, and pray the requests you are most afraid of by name.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

The psalmist pictures handing a burden to the Lord and leaving it there. Try picturing the specific weight you are carrying today and setting it down in God’s presence as you pray these words.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

Peter’s invitation is personal: cast your anxieties on God because he cares for you. Pray this verse with your own name in the space of “you,” and let the care in it sink in before you start your tasks.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Jesus reminds his listeners that each day has enough trouble of its own. Use this verse to pray about only today’s list, and ask God to hold tomorrow while you focus on what is in front of you.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

God speaks to his people with steady reassurance: he is with them and will strengthen them. Pray this promise while you think about the hardest conversation or task on your calendar, asking God to be present in it.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this before you check your phone, while you are still sitting on the edge of the bed or standing at the kitchen sink with a glass of water. Keep something in your hands while you pray, such as a warm mug, your car keys, or a folded note with the day’s three priorities written on it. The physical act gives your restless mind a place to rest while your words move toward God.

If you are praying for someone else who wakes up worried, such as a spouse, a child, or a friend going through treatment or a hard season, read the prayer aloud together over coffee or send it as a text before their day begins. Asking someone to pray with you can take the loneliness out of an anxious morning and remind you both that the burden is shared.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into this day and stand beside you in every hard moment. May his peace guard your heart and your mind when the worries rise. May you feel his steadiness in your next breath, and may you walk out the door knowing that you are seen and loved.
