This daily prayer for a job interview is written for the hours before you sit across from a hiring manager, when your stomach is tight and your résumé feels thin. Pray it in the morning, in the car, or in the minute before you walk through the door. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words into each part.

Daily Prayer for a Job Interview

Father, I come to you before this interview with a mind that is already running ahead. I think about the questions I might be asked, the answers I might forget, and the moment when I have to say something about myself that sounds true and sounds confident. Calm my thoughts today. Help me remember that you have known my days long before this one, and that nothing about this morning catches you by surprise.

Give me clarity about what I bring to this role. Let me speak honestly about my experience and my strengths, without inflating them and without shrinking from them. Where I lack an answer, give me the humility to say so and the wisdom to ask a good question in return. Keep me kind to the people I meet, from the receptionist to the interviewer, and help me listen as much as I speak.

Whatever the outcome, let me leave this room with my dignity intact and my trust still in you. If this is the door you intend to open, let it open in your timing. If it is not, let me see that you have something better ready and give me the patience to wait for it. Thank you that I do not walk into this alone. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am nervous and my mind is racing. Steady my breathing and quiet my fears. Help me speak clearly, listen carefully, and be myself before the people in this room. I trust you with the result, and I thank you that you are with me right now. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul moves from worry to prayer in a single breath. Before the interview, name the specific things that frighten you, then hand each one to God with thanksgiving rather than rehearsing it again and again.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this verse to lean your own plans against God’s direction. Pray that the questions you cannot predict will still be answered by a heart that trusts him and looks to him for the next step.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

This verse takes the pressure off the outcome and places it on faithfulness. Ask God to help you do your preparation and presentation as work offered to him, whatever the hiring manager decides.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

When you feel unsure how to answer a hard question, this verse gives you a plain request to bring. Pray for wisdom in the moment, and trust that God gives it generously to those who ask.

Psalm 121:1-2

1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

(WEB)

Read this psalm as you walk toward the building. Remind yourself that your help does not depend on your performance, because the one who made heaven and earth is the one who keeps you going through the day.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray the full version at a quiet point the morning of the interview, ideally somewhere you can sit with your hands open on your lap or resting on the table. Many people find it helps to write the prayer on a card and keep it in a coat pocket or bag. Read it once through, then pause after each paragraph to let the words sink in before moving on.

If you have a friend, roommate, spouse, or mentor who knows you are interviewing, ask them to pray with you by phone or over breakfast. Speaking the prayer aloud to someone else can steady you, and their presence reminds you that you are part of a larger circle of care. Afterward, a short note to that person saying how the day went keeps the prayer going beyond the interview itself.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into that room and steady every step you take. May he give you words that are true, a listening ear, and a settled heart. Whatever the day brings, may you rest in the knowledge that you are known, loved, and held by the God who has been faithful to you all along.
