This short morning prayer is for asking God to watch over someone you love before the day gets busy. Pray it first thing, while the house is still quiet, or in the car before the day starts. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart leads.
Short Morning Prayer for a Loved One
Lord, I bring you the person I love this morning. You knew them before they woke up, and you know exactly what the day holds for them. Some of their hours will be full of work, school, errands, and people who need something from them. Some will be quiet and lonely. Be with them in all of it. Give them a clear mind when decisions press on them, and steady hands for the tasks in front of them.
I also ask for their heart. Guard them from worry that loops around in the middle of the night and follows them into the morning. Where they are tired, give them rest that is real, not just a pause before the next demand. Where they are hurting, let them feel that you are near, even if no one else notices. Protect them from anything that would pull them away from you today, and remind them, in small ways, that they belong to you.
Thank you for the gift of this new day and for the love I have for this person. Help me to show that love well, with patience and kindness, and to pray for them again when the day gets loud. Keep them safe going out and coming home. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I give you my loved one this morning. Walk with them through every task and every meeting, and every quiet moment in between. Give them peace where they feel anxious and courage where they feel small. Keep them close to you and bring them home safely tonight. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this before you check your phone or start the coffee. Sit somewhere you can stay still for a minute, perhaps near a window where morning light comes in. If your hands need something to do, hold a cup of tea, or hold a photo of your loved one, or simply rest them open on your lap. Let the prayer be spoken slowly enough that you can actually hear the words.
It can also help to pray it together with someone else. A spouse, a friend, or another family member who loves this person can take turns reading lines aloud. If you cannot be with them in person, you might send them a short text afterward saying you prayed for them this morning, which lets them know they were carried into the day by someone who cares.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless your loved one and keep them. May he make his face shine on them and be gracious to them, and may he give them peace as they go through this day. The love of God surrounds them wherever they go.
