This prayer is for the friend who knows you best, the person whose laughter you miss when they are far away and whose wellbeing weighs on you when they are struggling. Pray it when you think of them in the morning, when you hear unexpected news about them, or when you simply sense that they need God’s nearness. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak more plainly from your own heart.

Prayer for My Best Friend

Lord, thank You for the gift of this friend. You knew what I needed long before I did, and You placed someone in my life who listens, laughs with me, and tells me the truth. I ask You to be close to them today. If they are carrying worry about work, money, a family member, or a decision they cannot yet see through, lift that weight from their shoulders and give them steady ground under their feet.

Where they feel lonely or unseen, remind them that You see every detail of their life. Surround them with people who will encourage them and pray with them. Guard their sleep, their health, and their heart. If there is sickness, grief, or fear that I do not know about, You know it fully, and I trust You with it. Give them courage for the hard conversations and patience with themselves for the slow healing.

Father, let our friendship be a place where You are honored. Help me to speak kindly, to listen well, and to show up when it matters. Keep us both growing closer to You, and let each of us be a reminder to the other of Your faithfulness. Thank You that You never leave either of us. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my friend is on my heart right now. Be near them in whatever they are facing today. Give them peace where they are anxious, strength where they are tired, and hope where they feel stuck. Remind them that they are loved by You and by people who care about them. Thank You for knowing them completely. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your friend when they feel overwhelmed. Ask God to be the refuge they can run to when their circumstances feel unsteady, and to be real to them in the moment of need.

John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

(WEB)

Use this verse to thank God for the costly, faithful love that shows up in real friendship. Ask Him to help you and your friend love one another in the same self-giving way.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Bring your friend’s worries to God in prayer, one by one, and ask Him to guard their heart with a peace that makes no sense from the outside. Pray that they would lay their anxieties down.

Romans 12:15

Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.

(WEB)

Pray that you would be quick to rejoice with your friend in their good days and steady in sorrow with them in the hard ones. Ask God to make your presence a comfort to them.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up.

(WEB)

Ask God to strengthen the bond between you and your friend, so that when one of you falls, the other is there to lift them up. Pray that you would both be reliable companions on the road.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet time, such as early in the morning with a cup of coffee or in the evening before you sleep, and say the prayer slowly enough that each request has room to settle. If you can, write your friend’s name on a card or note in your phone and read the prayer while you look at it. Your hands can help too: fold them, or hold something that reminds you of them, like a photo or a small object you shared together.

You can also pray this prayer with another person who loves your friend. Share the words together, or ask someone to pray the shorter version over your friend when you cannot be with them. Afterward, consider sending them a message that says you prayed for them today, so they know they are carried by more than one heart.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your friend and keep them safe. May He make His face shine upon them and give them peace in every season. May they know, deeply and without doubt, that they are loved, that they are known, and that they are never alone on the road ahead.
