This simple prayer for a teenage daughter is written for parents, grandparents, stepparents and anyone who loves a young woman navigating the years between childhood and adulthood. It can be prayed at bedtime, in the car on the way to school, or in the quiet moments after a hard conversation. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Simple Prayer for a Teenage Daughter

Lord, you know my daughter better than I ever will. You saw her before she was born and you know every thought that crosses her mind, including the ones she has not yet put into words. I ask that you would give her a steady sense of who she is in you, so that her worth does not rise and fall with the comments of classmates, the numbers on a screen, or the approval of people who will not be around in ten years.

Protect her body and her heart as she grows. Keep her safe on the roads, in her friendships and online. Give her wisdom to choose friends who build her up, and courage to walk away from those who pull her down. When she feels anxious about school, her future or her appearance, calm her spirit and remind her that you are near. Help her to speak honestly with us, and help us to listen more than we lecture. Give her a teachable heart, and give me patience when her opinions differ from mine.

Above all, draw her close to you. Let her find in you a friend who never leaves and a Father whose love never changes. Shape her character with kindness, honesty and courage, and let her grow into the woman you have planned for her. Thank you for loving her more than I can. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my daughter is growing up, and some days I feel how much I do not know. Be with her today. Guard her heart, steady her mind, and show her that she is loved and known by you. Give her good friends, honest words and a sense of your peace. Help me to be the kind of parent she can talk to. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many parents find it helpful to pray for their teenager at a regular time, such as during the drive to school or just after she goes to bed. Keep a copy of the prayer somewhere you will see it, perhaps on your phone or tucked inside a kitchen cabinet, so you can return to it when a moment of worry strikes. Praying with your hands busy, such as while folding laundry or making a cup of tea, can help you stay focused and calm.

You do not have to pray this alone. Invite a spouse, a close friend or a small group from your church to pray for your daughter with you. Let your daughter know you are praying for her, if that feels right for your relationship, and ask her if there is anything specific she would like you to lift up. Some teenagers welcome that openness, and others prefer it quietly, so let her lead you on that.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless her and keep her. May he make his face shine upon her and be gracious to her. May she grow in wisdom, kindness and faith, and may she know, on every ordinary and difficult day, that she is deeply loved by the One who made her.
