This short prayer for children’s safety is for parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone who loves a child and feels the weight of keeping them safe. Pray it when you drop them off at school, tuck them into bed, or lie awake listening for a car in the driveway. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your fears are more specific.

Short Prayer for Children’s Safety

Father, you know every child by name, and you know the children I love most. I bring them to you today. Watch over them when I cannot be there: on the playground, in the car, at the bus stop, in the homes of friends, and online where I cannot see what they see. Guard their bodies from harm, their minds from fear, and their hearts from anyone who would hurt or mislead them.

Give them wisdom to know when something is wrong, and the courage to tell me or another trusted adult right away. Surround them with people who are safe and kind. Where I have been anxious or careless, forgive me, and steady my hands and my heart. I trust that you love these children more than I ever could, and that you are already at work in their lives. Keep them close and bring them home safely. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, keep my children safe today. Go before them and beside them, and be the wall around them that I cannot always be. Give them good judgment, honest hearts and people who care for them. Quiet my fear and remind me that you hold them in your hands. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 91:11

For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your children by naming the places they go each day. Ask God to send his angels to guard them there, especially in the places where you cannot follow.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Use this passage when you watch them leave the house or step onto a bus. Ask the Lord to keep their going out and their coming in, from now on and forever.

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

This verse reminds you that your watchfulness has limits and that the Lord is the true keeper of the city and the home. Pray it when you feel you must control every risk on your own.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Speak this promise to a child who is frightened of the dark, a new school or a bad dream. Ask God to make his nearness real to them in that moment.

Matthew 18:10

See that you don’t despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

(WEB)

Jesus says the children’s angels see the face of the Father. Pray that heaven is attentive to your children and that they are valued far beyond what you can see.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose one regular moment each day, such as the drive to school, bedtime or the walk to the car after practice, and pray this prayer then. Keep a hand on something that belongs to your child, like a backpack, a blanket or the steering wheel, as a physical reminder to hand them over to God. If you are praying with a partner, let each of you pray one paragraph aloud so the burden is shared.

Consider asking other people to pray for your children too. A grandparent, a pastor, a close friend or a teacher can carry a child’s name before the Lord in their own prayers. Write the names on a card and place it somewhere you will see it each morning, so that prayer for their safety becomes part of your daily rhythm rather than a response to crisis.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord keep these children safe in every place they go. May he be their shelter when storms come and their companion when they walk alone. May they grow up knowing they are loved, watched over and never forgotten by the one who made them.
