This bedtime prayer for daily guidance is for the end of the day, when you are tired and the day’s decisions are still running through your mind. Pray it at night before you sleep, and let it help you hand the unfinished pieces to God. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own names and worries into it.
Bedtime Prayer for Daily Guidance
Lord, the day is ending, and I bring it to you as it is. Some of it went well, and I am grateful for those moments. Some of it did not, and I am sorry for the impatience, the hurry, and the words I wish I had not spoken. Thank you that you were with me in all of it, in the calm hours and the hard ones. Forgive what needs forgiving, and help me to rest in that forgiveness tonight.
I also bring you the decisions I could not settle today. I do not know yet how to handle the conversation at work, the bills that need attention, or the choice about my children’s schedule. Show me what I need to know when I need to know it, and give me the wisdom to take the next faithful step without getting ahead of you. Quiet the voice that says I must figure everything out tonight. Remind me that you see tomorrow clearly, even when I cannot. Keep watch over my family, my health, and the people I love while I sleep, and let me wake with a steadier heart. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am tired and I have too many questions for tonight. Guide me in what I face tomorrow, and show me the next step when I cannot see the whole road. Calm my mind so I can sleep. Thank you for being awake when I am not. Watch over the people I love, and help me trust you with what I cannot control. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.
(WEB)
Before you sleep, ask God to be the lamp that shows you the next few steps. You do not need to see the whole road to follow him faithfully tomorrow.
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
(WEB)
Use this verse to release your need to understand every outcome. Ask God to direct your paths, especially in the decisions that are still unclear tonight.
Psalm 4:8
In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.
(WEB)
Pray this verse as you lie down, naming your fears one by one. It is a reminder that rest is possible because God keeps you safe through the night.
Psalm 127:2
It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.
(WEB)
Let this verse loosen the grip of your worry. Ask God to give you the rest that he gives to those he loves, even when your work is not finished.
Lamentations 3:22-23
22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.
(WEB)
Thank God for his mercies that are new each morning. Ask him to meet you again tomorrow with fresh strength and guidance for the day ahead.
How to Pray This Prayer
Pray this prayer after the house is quiet, ideally in the same place each night, such as your bed or a chair near the window. Before you begin, you might sit with an open hand on your lap or hold a small object that reminds you of God’s care, like a smooth stone or a cup of water. Speak the words slowly. If a worry rises up while you pray, pause and simply say, “I give this to you, Lord,” then continue.
If you share a home with a spouse, roommate, or children, pray this together, or ask one of them to read it aloud while you listen. A friend who is also up late can pray it with you by phone. Keep a notebook by your bed to jot down the decisions you are handing over, and return to it the next evening to see how God has been at work in them.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord guide each step of tomorrow and keep watch over you through the night. May he give rest to your mind and peace to your heart, and may you wake to find his mercy fresh and waiting for you.
