This is a daily prayer for daily protection, written for the start of each day when you want to hand your safety, your family, and your steps to God before the day pulls you in a dozen directions. Pray it first thing in the morning, while the house is still quiet, or in the car before you walk into work. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own concerns into your own words.
Daily Prayer for Daily Protection
Lord, I come to you at the beginning of this day because I cannot see what is ahead. I think about the drive to work, the traffic, the people on the road who are tired or distracted. I think about my children and the places they will go, the school hallways, the playground, the friends I cannot always see. Be the wall around them and around me. Guard our going out and our coming in.
I also ask you to guard my mind. Some days the worry arrives before my feet hit the floor. I wake up already rehearsing the bad news I fear, the phone call I dread, the conversation I have not finished. Quiet those thoughts. Remind me that you are already awake, already present, and already working in the hours I have not lived yet. Protect me from the lies that tell me I am alone.
Father, protect the people I love from harm I do not know about, and protect me from the harm I might cause by my own carelessness or pride. Keep my hands steady, my words kind, and my heart honest. Walk with us through every hour of this day, and bring us home safely to you tonight. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, keep me today. Go before me into every room and every meeting, and stay with me on every road. Guard the people I love and guard my own heart from fear. Where I am weak, be strong. Where I cannot see, be my light. Hold us all in your hands until evening comes. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a fixed moment and place for this prayer, such as while the coffee brews, before you open your phone, or in the driveway before you turn off the engine. Keeping the same time each day builds a habit that carries you through the harder mornings. If you have a copy of your family’s schedule, keep it nearby and pray through it line by line.
Use your hands while you pray. Touch the car door, the kitchen counter, or the hand of a child who is still sleepy. You might trace a cross on your forehead or hold a small object you keep as a reminder. Ask a spouse, a friend, or a roommate to pray it with you, or to pray it for you on the days you cannot find the words.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you and behind you today, and may his hand rest on your shoulder in every hard moment. May the people you love be kept from harm they cannot see, and may peace guard each heart in your home. Go in the strength of the one who never sleeps.
