This is a simple prayer for my home, a short and honest way to ask God to watch over the place where you eat, rest, argue, laugh and come back to at the end of a hard day. You can pray it in the morning before anyone is awake, in the evening when the lights go down, or whenever you walk through the front door. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Simple Prayer for My Home
Lord, thank you for this home. Thank you for the roof over our heads, the table where we gather, and the doors that open and close each day. You know every room in this house and every person who lives in it. Nothing about this place is hidden from you, and I bring it to you now, the good and the difficult alike.
Protect the people who sleep under this roof. Guard our going out and our coming in. Where there is tension between us, soften our hearts and give us patience to listen before we speak. Where there is worry about money, health, work or school, take hold of those fears and remind us that you provide. Keep illness away from our bodies and send your peace into our rest at night.
Make this home a place where your love is felt, where people feel safe to be honest, and where kindness is practiced when no one is watching. Let anyone who walks through our door sense that you are welcome here. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, you are the one who keeps this house. Watch over the people inside it today. Guard them from harm, give them wisdom in small decisions, and let your peace settle in every room. Where we are tired or short with each other, fill the gap with your grace. Thank you for being near. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer at the threshold of the home, either first thing in the morning as you open the door or in the evening as you turn off the lights. Standing in the doorway, with a hand on the frame, can make the words feel grounded in the actual place you are praying for. If you live with others, you might read the prayer slowly and invite them to add one line of their own.
If you are praying alone for a home that feels strained or quiet, you can walk from room to room while you pray, pausing in the kitchen, the children’s rooms, the bedroom and the living room to name what each space holds. Some people also write the prayer on a card and place it in a kitchen drawer or on the fridge, so that anyone in the house can pray it whenever they see it.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord keep this home and everyone who lives in it. May he give rest to the weary, courage to the anxious and kindness to the quarrelsome. May his peace settle over every room and stay long after the day is done.
