This short morning prayer is for asking God to watch over your mother and father as the day begins. Pray it when you first wake up, while you are still making coffee, or in the car before you call them. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces between its lines.
Short Morning Prayer for My Parents
Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of my parents. Before they step into their day, I ask you to go ahead of them. Be in their kitchen while they make breakfast, in their thoughts while they check the news, and in their hearts when the first worries of the day start to gather. Give them a steady mind and a calm spirit, especially where health, money, work or aging feel heavy. Where their bodies are tired or sore, give them strength for what they must do and rest when they can take it.
Father, I also lift up the people they will meet today: the coworkers, the neighbors, the doctors, the friends who will call or stop by. Let their words be kind and their decisions wise. Where they are facing a hard conversation, a difficult bill, or a long wait for news, go before them and make the way clear. Keep their marriage, if they share one, rooted in love and patience, and let them feel your nearness even when no one else is around. Show them where you are already at work in their lives this morning.
Lord, I ask you to protect them from harm on the roads, in their homes, and in every hidden place where danger or discouragement might find them. Remind them that they are not alone and that you hear them when they cannot find the words to pray. Let me be a source of encouragement to them today, not a burden, and help me to honor them in what I say and do. Thank you that your love for them begins each day again and never runs out. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, my parents are in your hands this morning. Walk with them through every task and every conversation today. Give them strength in their bodies, peace in their minds, and wisdom for the decisions in front of them. Keep them safe, and let them feel your presence close by. Thank you that you never leave them. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this before you check your phone or get out of bed, while the house is quiet. If you can, sit in a chair near a window, hold a warm cup in your hands, and let the prayer slow your breathing before you start the day. You might also keep a small note on the kitchen counter with the names of your parents so you remember to pray for them while you wait for the kettle.
If you live with your parents or near them, consider praying with them over breakfast or as they leave for work or appointments. You could also ask a sibling, a close friend, or your church small group to pray the same words on the same morning, so your parents are carried by several people at once. Pray it again later in the day if a specific need comes to mind.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless your mother and father this morning and keep them in every step they take. May his face shine on them, and may his peace settle over their hearts and their home. May they walk through today knowing they are loved, held, and never forgotten by the God who made them.
