This daily prayer for my work is written for the start of a workday, the commute, or the quiet minutes before you open your inbox or clock in. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own concerns into your own words. It is meant to bring your job, your colleagues and your responsibilities into the presence of God before the day takes over.
Daily Prayer for My Work
Lord, thank You that You see me in the middle of my ordinary days, including the ones spent at a desk, behind a counter, on a job site or in a meeting room. I come to You before the first call comes in and before the list of tasks begins to grow. Give me clear thinking to do what is in front of me today, and help me focus on the next faithful step instead of every problem I can imagine.
Father, I bring You the people I work with. Some of them are hard to be around, some are struggling quietly, and some I simply see less often than I should. Give me patience when my patience runs short, honesty when it would be easier to stay silent, and kindness when someone is short with me. Let my words build people up rather than wear them down. Where I am tempted to measure my worth by my performance, remind me that I am already loved and accepted by You.
Be with me in the decisions I have to make today, large and small. Give me wisdom about what to say yes to and what to decline, and let me do my work with integrity even when no one is checking. If I make a mistake, help me own it and learn from it without fear. Whatever this day brings, let me give my best effort and trust the results to You. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am heading into my work today and I need You there with me. Give me focus for the task in front of me, patience with the people I meet, and honesty in everything I say and do. Help me rest in the fact that I am not carrying this day alone. Thank You for going ahead of me into it. Amen.

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
(WEB)
Turn to this passage when worry about performance, money or your future crowds out your thinking. Bring each concern to God in prayer and receive His peace as you go back to your tasks.
How to Pray This Prayer
Pray it before you start work, ideally in the same spot each morning, such as the car before you walk into the building, your kitchen table with a cup of coffee, or a bench on your lunch break if you are reading it midday. Keep a notebook or phone note nearby so you can jot down a name or situation that comes to mind, and add it to the prayer the next day. Some people find it helpful to pray with their hands open on the desk or steering wheel, as a small physical reminder that they are releasing the day to God.
If you are praying with a spouse, friend or a small group, you can take turns reading the paragraphs aloud or have one person lead while the others say “Amen” at the end. A coworker who shares your faith might agree to pray this with you by phone or in person before a difficult week begins. Praying alongside someone else keeps the prayer from becoming a routine you rush through, and it reminds you that you are part of a larger body of people who care about one another’s working lives.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you and beside you in every task today. May He give you clear thinking, steady hands, and a kind word for the people you meet. May your work be done with honesty and care, and may you rest in the knowledge that He is faithful, even when the day is long.
