This short morning prayer is for our church, the congregation you gather with, serve alongside and pray for by name. Pray it as you start your day, before the first call, the first email or the first cup of coffee gets your attention. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit.
Short Morning Prayer for Our Church
Lord, I come to you before the day gets loud. Thank you for this new morning and for the people you have given us to call our church. Be with the ones who will lead worship this week, the ones who teach our children, and the ones who quietly stock the kitchen, fold the bulletins and answer the phone. Give them patience when things go wrong and joy when they see small answers to prayer.
Walk with the families who are carrying something heavy this morning: the hospital waiting room, the job that feels uncertain, the marriage that is strained, the grief that still catches them off guard. Keep our church from becoming a place of busy people who forget each other. Make us slow to judge, quick to listen and generous with what we have. Let our building be a place where strangers feel welcome and friends feel known. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, bless our church today. Strengthen the people who serve, comfort the people who are hurting, and draw the lost toward you through the kindness of your people. Help us love one another well in the next few hours, in our homes, at work and in the ordinary moments no one else sees. Keep us close to you. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this prayer before you check your phone, while the coffee is still warm or during the drive to work. Sit somewhere quiet if you can, such as a kitchen chair or a corner of the couch, and keep a pen nearby in case a name or a need comes to mind that you want to write down for later. Pray slowly and let the pauses between sentences do some of the work.
Invite someone else from the church to pray the same words on their own that morning, or share the prayer in your small group so everyone is praying toward the same needs. Many people find it helps to pray for one named household each day of the week, so the whole congregation gets remembered over time.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before our church today and walk beside each person who belongs to it. May he give strength to those who serve, rest to those who are weary and peace to those who are waiting for answers. May your church know God’s nearness in every ordinary hour of this day.
