This simple prayer for the week ahead is for the start of a new week, when the calendar is full and your mind is already running ahead to meetings, deadlines, and conversations you have not had yet. Pray it on Sunday evening or first thing Monday morning, read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words to the things on your heart.

Simple Prayer for the Week Ahead

Lord, I come to you before the week gets loud. You already know what Monday holds: the early alarm, the inbox, the errands, the people who need something from me and the ones I have been worrying about since Friday. Give me clear thinking for the decisions in front of me and a steady heart for the hard conversations I would rather avoid. Keep me from rushing through the hours as if they belong only to my own strength.

Be present in the small things too. Go with me to the school pickup line, the hospital waiting room, the work meeting that might run long, and the quiet hour when I am tired and tempted to snap at the people I love. Where I am anxious about money, health, or what others think of me, remind me that you are already at work in those places. Help me to take one day at a time and to ask for daily bread instead of trying to carry the whole week at once.

Thank you for going before me into every day of this week. Keep my family safe, guide the choices I make, and let my words and my work reflect your kindness. When I fall short, forgive me and help me begin again. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this week is ahead of me and I feel the weight of it already. Go before me into each day. Give me wisdom for what I must decide, patience with the people I will meet, and peace where I am worried. Help me trust you with what I cannot control and to do faithfully what is mine to do. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:8

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your comings and goings for the week, asking God to guard every trip, every office door, and every drive home. It is a reminder that his watch over you does not pause when you leave the house.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Read this slowly on the morning you feel least ready for the week. Thank God that his mercy is new each day, and ask him to give you what you need for today rather than all of next Thursday.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Bring the decisions you face this week into prayer, naming each one. Ask God to make your paths straight, and notice where you are tempted to lean on your own understanding instead.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

When worry begins to crowd out your planning, turn it into prayer with specific requests and thanksgiving. Let this passage shape how you respond the moment anxiety rises during a busy day.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this for the moments when your energy runs low, especially mid-week. Ask the Lord to renew your strength for the tasks that remain, and to help you rest without guilt when rest is needed.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time to pray it, such as a few minutes after you make your first cup of coffee or while you sit in the car before going into work. If you can, write the week’s known commitments on a card beside you and pray through them one by one. Keeping your hands busy, by holding a pen, a mug, or your child’s hand, can help a racing mind slow down long enough to listen.

You can also pray this prayer with someone else. A spouse, a close friend, or a family member can read it together at the start of the week, taking turns with the lines about work, home, and the people you each worry about most. Praying side by side makes the week feel less like something to face alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go ahead of you into every day this week. May he give you clear thoughts, gentle words, and a steady heart. May you feel his nearness in the ordinary hours, and may his peace guard your heart and mind as you walk forward.
