This morning prayer is for the mother, father, grandparent or friend who wants to bring a daughter before God at the start of her day. Pray it over her when you wake up, while she is getting ready for school or work, or in the quiet minutes before the house fills with noise. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and let your own words follow where your heart goes.

Morning Prayer for My Daughter

Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of my daughter. Before she opens her eyes, you already know the day ahead of her: the classes, the conversations, the messages on her phone, the people she will meet and the work she has to finish. Go before her into every one of those moments. Give her a clear mind when she is tired, patience when she is frustrated, and the courage to do the right thing when no one is watching.

Protect her body and her heart as she travels, studies, works and rests. Guard her from fear that is not from you, from comparison that steals her joy, and from words spoken to her or about her that do not reflect who you have made her to be. Where she feels lonely or unsure of her friendships, remind her that she is seen and known by you. Help her to be kind, honest and generous today, even in small ways that no one will praise.

Father, I release her into your hands this morning. I cannot be with her every hour, but you can. Walk with her, speak to her, and let her know that she belongs to you before she belongs to anyone else. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my daughter is heading into this day, and I cannot go with her. Be with her at school, at work, and wherever she goes. Give her wisdom for her decisions, kindness for the people around her, and peace that does not depend on how the day turns out. Keep her close to you from the first hour to the last. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this over your daughter as you think about everything she will go out into today. Ask the Lord to keep her from harm in her going out and her coming in, and thank him that his watch over her does not pause when she leaves your sight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this verse when she faces a decision she does not feel ready to make. Ask God to keep her from leaning only on her own understanding, and to make her paths straight as she turns to him in the middle of the day.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this for the worries that tend to crowd your daughter’s mind before she has even had breakfast. Ask that she would bring each anxious thought to God in prayer, and that his peace would stand guard over her heart and mind.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

This verse fits a day that will be long or demanding for her. Pray that the Lord would renew her strength for each task, so that she is not running on empty by afternoon but carried by a strength that comes from him.

Romans 12:2

Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.

(WEB)

Pray this for her thinking and her choices. Ask God to shape her mind so that she is not pressed into the mold of the world around her, but is changed from the inside as she learns what pleases him.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying it while she is still in bed or during the first few minutes after she gets up, before her phone or her schedule takes over. If you can, pray with your hand resting on her shoulder, on the kitchen table near her cereal bowl, or simply hold a small object that reminds you to keep her in your thoughts through the day. Some parents keep a note in the car or by the front door with her name and a single line from the prayer.

You can also invite her to pray it with you, or ask a spouse, grandparent, close friend or pastor to pray the same words for her on the days when you are unable to. Afterward, consider sending her a short text with a verse from this page so that she knows the prayer followed her into the day.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless her and keep her this day. May he make his face shine upon her and be gracious to her, and may she walk in his peace from the first step to the last. She is loved, she is known, and she is never alone in the day ahead.
