This prayer is for the moments when faith feels thin and trust feels hard to reach for. It is written for the person who wants to believe God is good and present but finds that their heart is anxious, tired or unsure. You can pray it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it leaves open.

Prayer for Faith and Trust

Lord, you know how hard it has been to hold on to what I say I believe. Some days I trust you without effort, and other days I lie awake running through every way things could go wrong. I worry about the people I love, about money, about the decisions in front of me, and about whether any of it is really in your hands. Forgive me for the times I have tried to carry everything alone and then wondered why I feel so worn out.

Give me faith that is more than a feeling. Settle the restless parts of my mind and help me remember what you have already done in my life, even in seasons I did not understand. Where I am afraid, be my steady ground. Where I am uncertain, be my clear light for the next step, even if I cannot see the whole road. Teach me to bring each worry to you in the middle of the day rather than saving them for the night.

I choose to trust you today, not because I have everything figured out, but because you are faithful and I need you. Strengthen what is weak in me, and let my trust grow quietly, one honest prayer at a time. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am anxious right now, and my faith feels small. Help me trust you with this next hour and the one after it. Remind me that you are near, that you hear me, and that you are not surprised by what I am facing. Give me enough trust to take the next faithful step, and leave the rest with you. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and then pray it back to God in your own words. Ask him to help you lean on him instead of on your own understanding, especially in the decision that feels most tangled right now.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

Use this verse at the moment fear rises. Name the fear out loud, then say the words of trust back to God as a deliberate choice rather than a finished feeling.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Pray this for a restless mind. Ask God to keep your thoughts anchored on him, and notice where your attention drifts so you can bring it gently back.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.

(WEB)

When you feel you have no faith to offer, pray this verse as a definition you are asking God to grow in you. Thank him for the hope you already have, even if it is small.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to God when tomorrow feels crowded with worry. Ask him to help you live faithfully within today and to trust him with what has not yet arrived.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer early in the morning, before the phone and the to-do list take over. Sit somewhere quiet, with a cup of something warm in your hands, and read the prayer slowly. You may want to pause after each paragraph and let your own concerns come to mind before you go on.

If you are praying with someone else, ask them to read it aloud while you listen, or take turns reading the paragraphs. A friend or family member can also pray it over you on a hard day, reminding you that trust does not have to be built alone. Keep a small note of the things you have prayed for, and return to it when you need a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who has been faithful through every season of your life guard your heart and steady your mind. May he meet you in the places where trust feels fragile and give you the courage to rest in his care. He is near, and he is good.
