This simple prayer for those in need is written for the moments when you want to bring someone’s hardship before God but do not have the words. It can be read aloud exactly as written, or you can use it as a starting point and add the names and details of the people on your heart.

Simple Prayer for Those in Need

Father, you see the people who are hurting today, the ones who lie awake wondering how the bills will be paid, the ones sitting beside a hospital bed, the ones who have lost work or a marriage or a friend and cannot find their footing. You know each of them by name. I bring them to you now, not as a list of problems but as people you love. Be near to those who feel alone in their pain. Give them enough strength for the next hour and enough hope for the days ahead.

Lord, meet the practical needs that weigh so heavily: the food on the table, the rent due at the end of the month, the medicine that costs more than it should, the child who is struggling at school. Open doors that look closed. Send help through the hands of neighbors, family, and strangers who notice. Where I can be part of the answer, show me what to do and give me the courage to do it. Comfort the grieving, steady the anxious, and remind the weary that they are not forgotten. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, you know the people I am thinking of right now and what they are carrying. Be close to them. Give them what they need today, comfort where they are hurting, and wisdom where they are unsure. Let them feel your presence even in the hard places. Thank you that you hear every prayer, even the ones spoken in a quiet moment. Amen.

Pray this for anyone whose heart feels broken. Ask God to draw near to them specifically, naming their loss or fear, and trust that his nearness is the first comfort they need.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Use this verse to invite a weary person into rest. Pray that they would bring their burdens to Jesus honestly, without pretending they are fine.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this for those overwhelmed by worry. Ask that they would bring each specific concern to God in prayer and receive a calm they cannot explain.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

(WEB)

Let this verse shape your prayer for the community around you. Ask God to show you and others how to carry one another’s burdens in concrete, practical ways.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray for others first thing in the morning or just before bed, when the day’s needs are fresh in mind. Sit somewhere quiet, with a cup of coffee or a cup of tea in your hands if that helps you settle. You might keep a short list on your phone or a card in your wallet, so that when you think of a name during the day you can pause and speak it to God.

This prayer can also be shared. Read it aloud with a spouse, a friend, or a small group, and let each person add the names of those they are concerned about. If you are unable to pray for someone in person, consider sending them a message saying you are holding them in prayer. Often the people who need prayer most are the ones who feel least able to ask for it.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless the people you have prayed for and keep them in his care. May he be a steady presence when they feel unsteady, a source of strength when they are spent, and a light when the way is dark. May they know, even in the middle of their need, that they are loved and seen.
