This prayer is for anyone going through hard times, whether the trouble is a diagnosis, a broken relationship, financial strain, grief, or a season of quiet exhaustion that no one else seems to notice. Pray it in the morning before the day begins, at night when the worries get loud, or whenever you need to bring your burden to God. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Christian Prayer for Those Going Through Hard Times

Lord, you see me in this place, and you know exactly what I am carrying. Some days I cannot find the words, and some days the words come out as tears. I am tired. I lie awake running through what could go wrong, and I feel the weight of decisions I did not ask to make. Be near to me in the middle of this. Steady my heart when fear rises, and give me enough strength for today even if I cannot see past it.

Father, I also ask for the people around me. Give me honest friends who will sit with me without rushing me toward answers. Give wisdom to the doctors, counselors, or family members I need to lean on, and let me hear your voice through the people you have placed in my path. Where I have been ashamed of my struggle or tempted to hide it, free me to be honest with you and with them. Keep my hope alive, not because I have pretended the pain away, but because you are faithful in it. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am struggling right now, and I need you. Hold me steady in this moment, calm the fear in my chest, and remind me that you are close. Give me the next small step and the strength to take it. I trust you with what I cannot fix. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Pray this verse when the ground feels unstable. Name the specific trouble you face, then remind yourself that God is your refuge in it, not only in some future calm.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

Bring your broken feelings to God as you read this. Ask him to draw near to the exact places where your heart hurts today, and believe that he does.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Pray this as an invitation you are accepting. Tell Jesus what is wearing you out, and ask him to give you rest in the parts of life you cannot control.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Speak this verse slowly over your fears. Ask God to replace dread with the steady assurance that he is with you and will strengthen you through what comes.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Let this passage guide your worries into prayer. Write down what you are anxious about, then give each item to God, asking for the peace that guards your heart and mind.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet time and place where you will not be interrupted, such as a chair by a window, your car before you go into work, or the edge of your bed before you get up. Keep a pen or a cup of tea in your hands so your body has something to do while your mind wanders. Read the prayer once slowly, then go back and pause after each sentence to let the words settle.

You may also invite someone you trust to pray it with you or over you. Ask a friend, a spouse, or a pastor to read it aloud while you listen, or to pray it for you on the days you have nothing left to say. Hard seasons are not meant to be carried alone, and God often meets us through the faithful presence of others.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord be your strength when your own runs low. May he keep watch over your going out and your coming in, and may his peace settle over you like a warm blanket on a cold night. You are not forgotten in this season, and you will not be left alone in it.
