This bedtime prayer is for the nights when your mind drifts forward to what is coming: the next job, the next season, the children you are raising, the decisions still unmade. You can pray it at the end of the day, lying in bed or sitting on the edge of the mattress, and read it aloud exactly as written. You can also use it as a starting point, swapping in the names and worries that are really on your heart tonight.
Bedtime Prayer for My Future
Father, the day is finished, and I bring it to You. I am tired, and I am also carrying tomorrow and the years after it. I think about the work I may or may not have next year, the money that has to stretch, the health of the people I love, and the questions I cannot answer yet. Tonight I set them down in front of You, because I cannot hold them all at once and I do not have to.
Thank You for keeping me through this day when I could not see what was ahead. Thank You for the small mercies I noticed and for the ones I missed. Be the one who watches over my future while I sleep. Guard my mind from running ahead of Your grace, and give me peace about what I cannot control. Where I need wisdom, give it. Where I need courage, give that too. Let my plans be open-handed, ready to change when You change them.
Keep my family safe through the dark hours. Keep my heart soft toward You and toward others. Let me wake tomorrow trusting that the same faithfulness that carried me today is already waiting for me in the morning. Quiet my thoughts now, and let me rest in You. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am lying here thinking about what comes next, and my thoughts are racing. You already know the future I am afraid of and the one I am hoping for. Take these worries from my hands tonight. Give me enough trust for tomorrow and enough sleep to meet it well. I rest in Your care for my future. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Pray this prayer at the end of the day, after the lights are off or just before you climb into bed. Keep a notebook or phone note on the nightstand, and before you pray, write down the two or three future concerns that keep coming back. Read them as you speak the prayer, then close the note and leave it where you can see it in the morning.
If you share a home with a spouse, roommate or child, you can pray it aloud together, with each person taking a line about their own worries. If you are alone, try placing one hand on your chest while you pray, a reminder that you are not carrying the future by yourself. Let the prayer end with a few slow breaths, and give yourself permission to stop thinking about tomorrow.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who keeps watch over Israel keep watch over you tonight and over every year still ahead. May He give you rest that does not depend on having every answer. May the morning find you ready, trusted, and held.
