This is a prayer for those who need grace for the ordinary hours of the day: the tired morning, the difficult conversation, the long afternoon when patience runs thin. Pray it first thing when you wake, or at any point when you feel your own strength running out. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces it leaves open.
Daily Prayer for Daily Grace
Lord, I come to you before the day has had a chance to pull at me. You know what is waiting: the messages I have not answered, the people who will need something from me, the work that never seems to end, and the parts of myself I do not like very much. I do not have enough in me to meet all of it. I am asking you for what I cannot produce on my own, the grace to get through this day one hour at a time.
Give me patience with the people I love most, especially when they are slow to understand or quick to test me. Give me a clear mind when I am tempted to rush or worry, and a steady heart when things go wrong. Where I have already failed you or someone else, forgive me, and help me to receive that forgiveness without carrying it all day. Let my words be kind and my choices be wise, even when no one notices but you.
Be near me in the quiet moments and the noisy ones. When I am tired, carry me. When I am afraid, remind me that you are not surprised by anything that happens today. Teach me to ask for help and to accept it gladly. I trust that the same grace that held me yesterday will be enough for this morning, this afternoon, and this evening. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I need your grace right now, in this moment. I feel stretched and short on patience. Steady me, and help me respond with kindness instead of frustration. Give me enough strength for the next task and the one after that. Keep my heart near to you while my hands do the work in front of me. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find that the best time is the first few minutes after waking, before the phone or the news can crowd in. Sit somewhere quiet, such as the edge of your bed or a chair by a window, and keep a cup of coffee or tea in your hands to slow you down. You may find it helpful to read the prayer slowly, pausing after each paragraph to notice what stands out to you.
You can also pray this prayer with someone else. A spouse, a close friend, or a family member can take turns reading a paragraph aloud, or you can simply send it to a person who is going through a hard season and offer to pray it together by phone. Praying alongside another person often makes the grace feel more present and more shared.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord give you grace for each step of this day, and may his peace settle over your thoughts and your work. May he be near when you are weary and gentle when you fall short. May you rest tonight knowing that his mercies will meet you again in the morning.
