This daily prayer is for the community around you: your neighbors, your local church or school, the people you pass at the grocery store and the families on your street. Pray it in the morning before the day gets busy, or in the evening when you have a few quiet minutes to think about the people you share a place with. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Daily Prayer for My Community
Lord, you know the people who live around me better than I do. You know the names of the families on my street, the worries that keep them awake, and the small joys they hold quietly. I ask you to bless the place where I live. Watch over the children walking to school and the older neighbors who may be lonely. Give patience to the parents who are stretched thin and wisdom to the leaders who make decisions for our town. Where there is illness, be near. Where there is job loss or money trouble, provide what is needed and open doors I cannot see.
Make me a good neighbor today. Help me notice the person who looks tired, speak kindly to the cashier who is having a hard shift, and offer help without being asked when I can. Guard our community from division and gossip, and let our differences become a reason to listen rather than to grow angry. Heal what is broken between us, and let your peace settle over our streets, our homes and our gatherings. Use me as one small part of your answer to someone’s prayer today. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, my community is full of people who need you. Be close to the ones I know and the ones I will never meet. Protect the children, comfort the sick, and steady those carrying heavy loads. Show me one way to love a neighbor today, and give me the courage to do it. Let your peace be seen in our town. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find it helpful to pray this in the first few minutes after waking, while the house is still quiet. Keep a notebook or a note on your phone near your bed, and as you pray, jot down one or two names or situations from your community that come to mind. Over a week you will have a short list to pray through more specifically, and you can add to it as you learn about new needs.
You might also pray this prayer while walking your street, driving past the school, or standing in line at the store. Let your hands be busy with something useful, like watering a plant, folding laundry, or cooking breakfast, so the prayer becomes part of the rhythm of the day. If you pray with a spouse, friend or family member, take turns reading a line each, and invite a neighbor to join you when it feels natural.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord keep the people of this community in his care. May he meet each family in their need, strengthen the weary, and open the hearts of neighbors to one another. May his peace rest on your street, your town, and everyone who calls it home.
