This daily prayer for the weary is written for the person who wakes up already tired, carries more than they can name, and needs to hand the day to God before it starts. Pray it first thing in the morning, at the kitchen table before the house wakes, or at the end of a long day when your strength has run out. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words where yours belong.

Daily Prayer for the Weary

Lord, I come to you tired. Some of this tiredness is in my body, from sleepless nights and early alarms and the endless small tasks that never seem to finish. Some of it is in my mind, where I rehearse conversations, worry about money or work, and wonder whether I am doing any of this well. Some of it sits in my heart, where I have been carrying a hurt or a fear I have not known how to set down. You see all of it. Nothing about my weariness surprises you or makes you turn away.

Help me to rest in you today, not only when everything is finished. Show me the things I can let go of and the ones I need to ask someone else to carry with me. Give me wisdom to say no where I must, and courage to say yes where you are calling. When I feel that I am running on empty, fill me with the strength that comes from you and not from my own effort. Quiet the noise in my head long enough for me to hear your voice.

Thank you that you do not grow weary, and that you give strength to those who are faint. I receive that today as a gift I could never earn. Walk with me through every hour, and when I stumble, catch me. Let my tired hands be used for good and my tired heart be held by your love. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am worn out and I do not have much to offer you right now. Take what little I have and give me what I need for the next hour. Steady my breathing, lift the weight I am carrying, and remind me that you are near. I trust you with the rest of this day. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and let Jesus speak the invitation to you by name. Pray it when you feel too heavy to carry one more thing, and ask him to show you what burden you can set down before him today.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when your own strength has run out. Ask God to give you the power that the prophet describes, the kind that comes to those who have nothing left of their own.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Use this verse to name God as your refuge in a tiring season. Pray it aloud as a reminder that help is near even when your circumstances feel overwhelming.

Psalm 23:1-3

1 The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

(WEB)

Pray these lines as an image of rest. Ask the Shepherd to lead you to the places where your soul can be restored, and to refresh you in ways that go deeper than sleep.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Pray this when weakness feels like failure. Ask God to show you how his grace is enough for today, and to let your limits become a place where his strength is seen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you can be still for a few minutes, such as before the day’s first demand or during a quiet moment at lunch. Sit somewhere that feels calm to you, and keep something in your hands while you pray, like a warm mug, a smooth stone, or the edge of a Bible. The physical act of holding something can help your body settle while your mind slows down.

You do not have to pray this prayer alone. Ask a friend, spouse, or small group to pray it with you or over you, and let them speak the words aloud on the days you cannot find your own. If you are caring for someone else, you can pray it on their behalf, changing “I” to “they” or “we” wherever it fits.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who gives rest to the weary meet you in this day. May he steady your steps, refresh your spirit, and remind you that you are held. May you know his peace in the quiet moments and his strength in the hard ones, and may you rest in the faithfulness of the one who never grows tired.
