This daily prayer is written for those going through hard times, the seasons when the days feel heavy and the next step is hard to see. You can pray it in the morning before the day begins, at lunch in a quiet corner, or in the evening when the house finally goes still. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and add the names and worries that are on your heart today.

Daily Prayer for Those Going Through Hard Times

Lord, I come to you today because I am tired, and some days I do not know how to carry what I am carrying. You know the diagnosis I am waiting on, the bills that keep arriving, the conversation I dread, and the quiet fear that wakes me before the alarm does. You already know every detail, so I do not need to explain it all. I only need to bring it to you and leave it in your hands for a while.

Give me strength for the next hour, not the whole year. Steady my thoughts when they race ahead to what might happen. Help me notice the small mercies you place along the way, a kind word, a good meal, a moment of sunlight through the window. Where I feel alone, remind me that you are near. Where I feel forgotten, remind me that you have not forgotten me. Protect my heart from bitterness, and keep my hope from wearing thin.

Teach me to rest in you today, and to trust that your faithfulness does not depend on how well I am doing. Surround the people I love with your care, and give them patience with me when I have little left to give. Carry what I cannot carry, and help me take the next faithful step. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am struggling right now and I need you. Be close to me in this moment and give me the calm I cannot find on my own. Help me breathe, help me pray the next honest word, and help me take the next small step. I trust you with what I cannot fix today. Thank you that I am not facing this alone. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by naming the place where you feel least able to stand, and asking God to be the refuge you need in that exact spot. Let the truth that he is near in trouble become your starting point.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and then tell God where your heart feels broken right now. Ask him to draw near to that place, because this verse says he does.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Pray this as a promise spoken directly to you. Name one fear and ask God to replace it with the assurance of his presence and help.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring your weariness to Jesus in prayer, naming each thing that has worn you down. Ask him to give you rest in the middle of the load rather than only at the end of it.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Pray this verse with honesty, admitting you cannot yet see how things will work together. Ask God to grow your trust in his purposes even while the answers remain hidden.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time that is already part of your day, such as while the coffee brews, during the drive to work, or before you get out of bed. Keep a notebook or a note on your phone nearby, and write down the specific worries you bring to God so you can return to them and see how he meets you over the weeks.

If you are going through a hard season with someone else, invite them to pray it with you, or ask a trusted friend or pastor to pray it over you. Holding a cup of tea, a hymnbook, or a worn Bible in your hands can help your body settle while your mind wanders. Pray it again tomorrow, even if today felt like nothing happened.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord hold you steady through this season and give you rest for your soul. May he meet you with mercy each morning and keep your heart anchored in his love. May you find enough strength for today, and may the hope of his faithfulness walk with you into tomorrow.
