These daily prayers for parents are written for the ordinary and exhausting work of raising children, from the first cup of coffee to the last goodnight. Pray the main prayer below when you are ready to hand your family to God, or read it as written and then speak your own specifics aloud. Both approaches are welcome, and the words are meant to be a starting point rather than a script.

Daily Prayers for Parents

Father, I come to You as a mother and father who is tired, hopeful, and sometimes unsure what I am doing. Thank You that You know each of my children by name and that You love them more than I ever could. Today I give You the small things that fill my mind: the school bus that might come late, the homework that has to be finished, the friendship that seems to be fading, and the argument from last night that still sits between us. Give me patience when a child tests my limits, and give me the wisdom to know when to speak and when to simply listen.

Lord, I also bring You the deeper worries that I do not always say out loud. I think about their health, their faith, the choices they will face when I am not in the room, and the people they will become. I cannot protect them from every hurt, but You can. Guard their hearts and their minds, and keep them close to You even when they wander. Let my home be a place where grace is practiced, where mistakes are forgiven, and where they can feel safe coming home. Help me to be the kind of parent who points them to You rather than to myself. Be the strength I lack and the hope I need. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am holding my children in my heart right now. Calm my anxious thoughts, steady my tone, and help me respond with love instead of frustration. Guard each of them today and show them that You are near. Give me enough grace for this next hour and trust that You are already at work in their lives. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by thanking God that your children are a gift from Him. When you feel weighed down by the work of parenting, remember that they belong to Him first and that His care for them is larger than yours.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

(WEB)

Read this verse as a prayer for wisdom in shaping your child’s character. Ask God to help you guide each child in the way they should go, especially on the days when you cannot see the result yet.

Isaiah 40:11

He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young.

(WEB)

Let this verse remind you of the gentle shepherding God gives to the weak and the young. Pray that He would carry your children close and that He would carry you too when you feel you have nothing left to give.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

6 These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; 7 and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

(WEB)

Pray these words for the everyday moments when faith is taught at the kitchen table, in the car, and at bedtime. Ask God to make your home a place where His commands are spoken naturally and lived sincerely.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this passage when worry about your children begins to crowd out peace. Bring each specific fear to God in prayer with thanksgiving, and trust Him to guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many parents find it helpful to pray in the early morning, before the house wakes up, with a cup of something warm in your hands. Sit in the same chair each day if you can, and keep a pen nearby so you can write down a child’s name or a concern as it comes to mind. Praying with your hands busy, perhaps folding laundry or packing lunches, can also turn an ordinary task into a quiet conversation with God.

You do not have to pray alone. Invite your spouse, a close friend, or a small group from church to pray this prayer for your family, and ask them to tell you how they are praying for you in return. When a child is struggling, you can read the prayer aloud with them at bedtime, letting them hear that their family is lifted up by name every day.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless you and keep you as you care for the children He has entrusted to you. May He give you strength for the hard days and joy in the small victories. May your children grow in wisdom and faith, and may you rest in the knowledge that you are never parenting alone.
