A short prayer for your faith is a simple way to bring your doubts, tiredness and quiet hopes to God when you are not sure how to say them yourself. Pray it when you wake up unsure, before a hard conversation, or at night when faith feels thin. You can read the prayer aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words in where they fit.
Short Prayer for My Faith
Lord, I come to you today with a faith that feels smaller than I would like. Some mornings I want to trust you fully, and other mornings I find myself worrying about money, my health, my family, or the things I cannot control. Help me remember that you have never asked me to have perfect faith before I come to you. Meet me in the honest place where I actually am.
Strengthen what is weak in me. Quiet the voices that tell me I am too far gone or too late. Give me small, steady ways to keep trusting you, like opening your Word when I would rather scroll, or speaking one honest sentence to you before I speak to anyone else. Let my belief grow the way a seed grows, slowly and out of sight, until it shows up in how I live.
Thank you that you are faithful even when I am not. I ask you to keep my heart turned toward you today, and to let my faith rest in your character rather than in how I feel. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, my faith feels weak right now, and I do not have much to offer. I am asking you to hold on to me when I cannot hold on to you. Help me trust your love, lean on your word, and take the next honest step with you. Be faithful to me, even in this small moment. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Mark 9:24
Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”
(WEB)
This is the honest prayer of a father who wanted to believe but needed help with his unbelief. Pray it as it is, admitting that you believe and that you still need God to meet the parts of you that struggle.
Psalm 46:1-3
1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas; 3 though its waters roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with their swelling. Selah.
(WEB)
When your faith is shaken, these verses remind you that God is a refuge and strength even when the ground feels unsteady. Pray them slowly, naming the specific fears that make you feel like the world is giving way.
Romans 8:38-39
38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(WEB)
Paul lists the things that might seem to separate us from God, then insists none of them can. Pray this passage by naming the forces you fear most and asking God to help you trust that his love still holds you.
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.
(WEB)
Faith is described here as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we cannot see. Pray this when your faith feels invisible, asking God to make his promises more real to you than your circumstances.
Isaiah 40:29-31
29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.
(WEB)
This passage speaks to people who are worn out and running on empty. Pray it by asking God to renew your strength, not because you have earned it, but because you are weary and he is the one who gives power to the faint.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time when you can be still for two or three minutes, such as before you check your phone in the morning or in the quiet after the kids are asleep. Sit at your kitchen table or in a chair by a window, and hold a cup of tea or a Bible in your hands so your body has something to rest on while your mind settles. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to let it sink in.
You can also pray this with someone you trust, such as a spouse, a close friend or a small group leader. Take turns reading a paragraph each, or let one person pray the words while the other listens and adds a sentence of their own. Praying out loud with another believer can make the words feel less like a performance and more like a shared request.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who began a good work in you keep you steady when your faith feels small. May he remind you that you are known, loved and held, even on the days you can only whisper. May you find his faithfulness waiting for you again tomorrow.
