This morning prayer of gratitude is for the moment you open your eyes and want to thank God before the day gets loud. Pray it when you first wake, while coffee brews, or on the drive in. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own thanks in the same spirit.

Morning Prayer of Gratitude

Lord, thank You for this new morning. I did not earn it, and I am grateful that You gave me another day to breathe, to see light through the window, and to begin again. Thank You for the rest You provided last night, even if it was shorter than I wanted. Thank You for the people who share my home and my life, and for the small mercies I might otherwise overlook, like warm water, a working car, and a quiet cup of tea.

Today I will meet people who are tired, stressed, or hurting, and I will meet some of them at work, in traffic, or across the kitchen table. Thank You that You already know who I will see and what each one is carrying. Help me to notice them with gratitude instead of irritation. Thank You for the job or the tasks in front of me, for the strength to keep going, and for the chance to be useful to someone before the day is over.

Father, I also thank You for the hard things You are walking me through, because You are faithful even when I do not feel it. Thank You that You are with me in the difficult conversation, the long to-do list, and the decision I have been putting off. Fill my mouth with thanks before I complain and my heart with trust before I worry. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, thank You for this morning and for the breath in my lungs. Thank You for the people I will see today and for the work You have given my hands. Help me to notice Your goodness in the ordinary things, and to carry a thankful heart into every hour. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer before you pick up your phone or check the news. Sit on the edge of your bed, stand at the kitchen sink, or hold your coffee mug with both hands while you speak. Physical stillness helps your mind settle, and a warm drink or a window with morning light gives your thankfulness something concrete to rest on.

If you share your home, you might read the prayer aloud with your spouse, a child, or a roommate, taking turns on the lines about the people you will see today. You can also keep a short list of three things you are thankful for on a note by your bed and pray through it each morning. Over time, the list becomes a quiet record of God’s faithfulness.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who gives you this morning meet you with gladness and steady your heart for every hour ahead. May He open your eyes to His goodness in small things, and may your thankfulness go before you wherever you go today.
