This morning prayer is for the people who live on the other side of your fence, down the hall, or across the street from you. Pray it when you first wake, while coffee is brewing, or as you step outside to start the day. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Morning Prayer for My Neighbors
Lord, I come to you before the day gets loud. You know the people who share this street with me, and you know the names I know and the names I have not yet learned. I ask you to bless the family next door as they get their children ready for school. Give the parents patience when the shoes can’t be found and the lunch is forgotten. Give the grandmother who lives alone a steady morning and a visitor before the afternoon is over.
Father, you also see the neighbor who is worried about money, the one waiting on test results, and the one who has just buried someone they loved. Hold each of them close. Where anger has built up between us over a fence line, a loud party, or a parked car, soften my heart and theirs. Help me speak kindly if we cross paths, and help me notice when someone needs a hand with a heavy box or a dead battery. Let my small kindnesses today point them toward you.
Be near to the ones I will never meet and to those who are struggling quietly. Go before them in every errand and every appointment, and let them feel that they are not forgotten. Make me a neighbor who notices, who prays, and who shows up. Thank you for the people you have placed around me. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, bless the people near me today. Watch over those I know and those I don’t. Give my neighbors peace in their homes, strength for their work, and comfort where there is grief. Help me to be kind, to be patient, and to be ready to help when I am needed. Let them see you in how I treat them. Amen.

(WEB)

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this prayer while your hands are busy with something ordinary, like filling the kettle, making the bed, or buttoning a child’s coat. Pausing for even a minute at the start of the day helps you carry your neighbors with you into the hours ahead. If you share a home with a spouse, roommate, or child, invite them to pray it with you, so the whole household is lifting up the street together.
You might also keep a short list of neighbors by name on a note near the door or on your phone. Glance at it as you leave for the day and pray for one or two people specifically. Over time, you may find that the names become familiar, and that your prayers grow more concrete and more hopeful.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before your neighbors this day and walk beside them in every task. May he guard their homes, steady their hearts, and open doors for kindness between you. May they know, through your quiet faithfulness, that they belong to a God who sees them.
