This night prayer for reconciliation is for the end of a day in which a relationship is broken, strained or waiting for repair. Pray it at bedtime, once the lights are low and the day’s conversations have settled. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Night Prayer for Reconciliation
Lord, the day is ending, and I bring you the person I am struggling to be at peace with. I have replayed what was said, and I have replayed what I wish I had said instead. Some of it still hurts, and some of it I am not proud of. Please search my heart tonight and show me where I have held on to resentment, where I have been too quick to defend myself, and where pride has kept me from picking up the phone or swallowing my words.
Father, I ask you to soften what has grown hard in me and in the other person. Give us both the humility to listen, and the courage to say what is true without cruelty. Where I have been wrong, help me name it plainly. Where they have been wrong, help me forgive without pretending nothing happened. Guard the fragile places between us tonight, and let no bitter thought take root while I sleep. Thank you that you are a God who reconciles, who brought us back to yourself when we were far away. Rest my mind, quiet my worry about tomorrow, and keep this relationship in your hands until morning. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am tired and this relationship is still unsettled. I release the hurt I carried today and I ask for a willing heart. Show me the next small step toward peace, and give me grace for the other person as well as for myself. Hold us both tonight, and let me wake with a softer heart than I went to sleep with. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

Read this slowly before you pray for the other person. Ask God to help you extend the same kindness and forgiveness that you have received, even when the hurt still feels fresh.
Matthew 5:23-24
23 “If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
(WEB)
Jesus treats reconciliation as urgent and worth interrupting worship for. Ask him tonight which step belongs to you, and where you need to go to make things right.
Romans 12:18
If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.
(WEB)
Paul admits that peace is not always fully in our hands. Pray that you would do your part honestly, and leave the outcome with God.
Colossians 3:13
Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.
(WEB)
This verse links forgiveness to the forgiveness Christ has already given you. Pray it as a reminder that your debt of grace is larger than any offense you are carrying.
Psalm 133:1
See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!
(WEB)
The psalmist celebrates believers living together in unity. Pray this verse as a hope for your relationship, asking God to make peace possible again between you.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet moment just before you turn off the light, after your phone is set aside. Sit on the edge of the bed or stay where you usually rest, and keep a pen and paper nearby. If a specific memory keeps returning, write it down, then read the prayer over it. Some people find it helps to fold their hands or press them flat against their chest as they pray, which can slow the mind when it is racing.
You might also pray this with a spouse, a close friend or a family member who is willing to stand with you in the relationship. Another person can remind you of what you may have missed and can keep you accountable to take the next step in the morning. Ending the prayer by naming the person aloud, if you are comfortable doing so, makes the commitment feel more real.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who reconciles the world to himself settle your heart tonight. May he soften every hard place, quiet every accusing thought, and give you rest that does not depend on being right. May he bring the two of you closer in his time and in his way, and may your sleep be peaceful.
