If you are looking for prayers for a job interview, this page gives you a written prayer you can read aloud in the car, in the restroom before you go in, or at your kitchen table the night before. Read it as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words to the same concerns. Either way, the goal is the same: to bring your nerves, your preparation and the outcome itself to God before you sit down across from the people deciding your future.
Prayers for a Job Interview
Father, you already know about this interview before I walk into the building. You know the job I want, the hours I have spent preparing, and the knot that has formed in my stomach as the day gets closer. I ask you to steady my heart. Quiet the voice that tells me I am not ready, and remind me that my worth does not rise or fall with one conversation. Let me think clearly when questions come, and let me listen as much as I speak.
Give me honesty about my experience, neither inflating it nor hiding the things I have done well. Help me remember the work I have already done, the problems I have solved, and the people I have served. If there is something I do not know, let me say so with humility and a willingness to learn. Put kindness in my words toward the interviewers, and let my tone show respect for them, whatever the outcome. Guard my mind from comparing myself to the other candidates.
Above all, I place this opportunity in your hands. If this job is the right step for me and for the people I will serve, open the door and make the path plain. If it is not, close it gently and show me what you have prepared instead. Teach me to trust you whether the answer is yes, no, or not yet. Thank you that I do not face this alone. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am nervous, and you already know it. Steady my breathing and my thoughts. Help me to answer honestly, listen carefully, and speak with respect. Let me trust you with the result, whatever it may be, and let me be at peace in your presence right now. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Philippians 4:6-7
6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Paul names the exact feeling most people bring into an interview: worry. Pray these words by turning each anxious thought into a specific request, then pausing to receive the calm you asked for.
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Before you walk in, pray this verse as a surrender. Name the things you are most tempted to control, such as the questions you will be asked or what the panel thinks, and hand them over one by one.
James 1:5
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

Use this verse to reframe the interview itself. Pray that you would present your skills and character as service to God, which frees you from needing the interviewers to approve of you before you can do your best.
Psalm 121:1-2
1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

On the drive over or while waiting in the lobby, lift your eyes from your phone and your fears and pray this psalm. Remind yourself where your help comes from before anyone else speaks to you.
How to Pray This Prayer
The most useful time to pray this prayer is about fifteen minutes before you leave for the interview, when you have your notes, your outfit and your résumé ready but your mind is starting to race. Sit somewhere quiet, such as your car, a stairwell or a bench near the entrance, and read the prayer slowly. Stop after each paragraph and let the requests land before moving on.
Pair the prayer with something for your hands. Hold your folder of printed materials, or press your feet flat on the floor and feel the ground beneath you. If you have a friend, mentor or family member who knows you are interviewing, ask them to pray the same words for you, or to text you a verse that morning. Having someone else carry your request can take some of the weight off your own shoulders.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you into that room and be present in every question and every silence. May he give you clear thoughts, a steady voice and a grateful heart, whatever the outcome may be. May you walk out knowing you were seen, prepared and held by a God who is faithful.
