This lesson teaches children that Jesus, the Lamb who was killed, is worthy of all our praise because he saved people from every nation. It suits children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

Big Idea

Jesus is worthy of all our praise because he gave his life to rescue people from every family, language, and nation.

Memory Verse

Revelation 5:12

Saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who has been killed to receive the power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing!”

(WEB)

Have children stand tall and raise both hands high when they say “Worthy is the Lamb!” Then have them sweep their arms out wide, like a big circle, to show that Jesus is worthy for everybody in the whole world.

The Story: Revelation 5 for Kids

John saw a great scroll in the hand of God, who sat on his throne in heaven. The scroll was wrapped up tight with seven seals, and nobody could open it. A mighty angel called out, “Who is worthy to open this scroll?” John cried and cried, because it seemed like no one could.

Then one of the elders said, “Don’t cry, John. Look! The Lion from the tribe of Judah has won the victory, and he can open the scroll.” John looked and saw something surprising. Instead of a fierce lion, there was a Lamb standing there, and it looked as if it had been killed.

The Lamb walked up to the throne and took the scroll from God’s right hand. Right away, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. They held harps and golden bowls full of sweet prayers from God’s people, and they began to sing a brand-new song.

The song said, “You are worthy, because you were killed, and with your blood you bought people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation.” The angels joined in too, thousands upon thousands of them, singing in a loud voice that Jesus is worthy. Then every creature in heaven and on earth sang, “Amen!”

Read It Together

Revelation 5:5-6

5 One of the elders said to me, “Don’t weep. Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome; he who opens the book and its seven seals.” 6 I saw in the middle of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the middle of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.

Point out that the Lion turned out to be a Lamb. Explain that Jesus is strong and powerful, yet he showed his power by giving himself for us, not by fighting.

Revelation 5:9

They sang a new song, saying, “You are worthy to take the book, and to open its seals: for you were killed, and bought us for God with your blood, out of every tribe, language, people, and nation…

(WEB)

Show children the words “every tribe, language, people, and nation.” Explain that God wants people from all over the world to belong to him, and that includes the children in your room.

Revelation 5:13

I heard every created thing which is in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever! Amen!”

(WEB)

Point out that everything in heaven and on earth joins in the praise. Ask children to name things God made that they think could sing to Jesus, like birds, trees, or the ocean.

Talk About It

  • Why do you think John started crying when no one could open the scroll?
  • What surprised you when the elder pointed to the Lamb instead of a lion?
  • Who did Jesus buy for God, and where do those people come from?
  • How can you show Jesus that he is worthy of your praise this week?
  • What is one thing you would sing to Jesus if you could join the song in heaven?

Activity Ideas

Paper Lamb Craft

You will need cotton balls, white paper, glue, and a marker. Have children trace their hand on paper and cut it out, then glue cotton balls on the palm for wool. Draw a small face on the thumb, and talk about how Jesus, the Lamb, is worthy of our love. Children can take the lamb home as a reminder.

Worthy Lamb Line Game

Ask children to line up on one side of the room. Call out a sentence from the lesson, such as “Worthy is the Lamb!” Children step forward when they hear “Worthy” and cheer loudly with arms raised. Play a few rounds, changing the speed so everyone gets a good workout.

Family Praise Jar

You will need a jar, paper strips, and a pen. Each day, have family members write one thing about Jesus that makes him worthy of praise and drop it into the jar. At dinner, read the papers aloud and sing a short song together. This helps children remember that praise to Jesus can happen every day.

Teacher Notes

For adults, Revelation 5 shows that Jesus is the one who can open the story of history because he was faithful even to death. His sacrifice is the reason people from every nation are gathered into God’s family, and worship in heaven centers on him. The chapter invites believers to see that the same Lamb is at the heart of their praise today.

Avoid overstating the symbolism to children. Their focus should stay on the simple truths that Jesus loves them, gave his life for them, and is worthy of praise. Leave details about the seals, the living creatures, and the number of angels for older students or later conversations.

A Prayer to Close

Dear Jesus, we thank you that you are the Lamb who was killed for us. We praise you because you are worthy, and you love people from every family and nation. Help us sing to you every day with our words and our lives. Amen.
