This short morning prayer is for the moment when you wake up already tired, wondering how you will keep going through another day of demands, worry or long, unresolved struggle. Pray it first thing, before your phone, before the coffee, or while you sit on the edge of the bed. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words, adding the names of the people and tasks you already know you will face.

Short Morning Prayer for Endurance

Lord, I am waking up tired, and I am not sure how I will get through this day. You know the list already waiting for me: the work that will not finish itself, the conversation I am dreading, the people who depend on me and the problems I cannot fix on my own. Before any of it begins, I bring my weakness to you and ask you to be my strength for the hours ahead.

Give me steady feet for the long stretches of the day, not only for the moments when I feel brave. When I want to quit a task halfway through, remind me that you see the whole road and not just this step. When the same worry comes back for the fifth time before lunch, quiet it again. Help me take the next right action, and then the next, without needing to see the end.

Keep me gentle with myself and with the people I meet today. Where I have run out of patience, supply what I lack. Where I have run out of hope, remind me of what you have already carried me through. I trust you to meet me again tonight, so I can rest in you rather than measure myself by what I finished. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I need endurance before I even stand up. Give me enough strength for this next task, this next conversation and this next hour. Keep my heart from giving up before the day has really started, and let me lean on you whenever my own strength runs thin. I will ask again when the next wave comes. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a request for renewed strength when your energy is gone. Ask God to lift you above the exhaustion that makes the day feel heavy before it begins.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and tell God where you feel tempted to stop doing good work. Ask him to give you the patience to keep going at the right pace.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Use this verse to name the place in your day where you feel most unsteady. Ask God to be the refuge you run to when the pressure rises.

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

(WEB)

Pray this passage for the hard things you face now, asking God to shape endurance in you rather than simply to remove the difficulty. Thank him that he is at work even here.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Bring your limits to God in prayer and ask him to show his strength inside your weakness. Pray that you would accept his help today instead of trying to manage alone.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer while you are still in bed or sitting in the quiet before the house wakes up. If you keep a cup of tea or coffee nearby, hold it in both hands as you speak, letting the warmth remind you that God is close. Write the names of the people and tasks you expect to meet today on a sticky note, and read it aloud at the end of the prayer.

If you are praying with a spouse, a friend or a child, take turns adding one specific need each. Keep the prayer short enough that you can return to it at midday, when the first wave of tiredness arrives. Many people find it helpful to pray the shorter version again before a difficult meeting, a hard phone call or the drive home.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord give you strength that does not run out before the day does. May he steady your steps, guard your heart when the pressure rises and remind you that you are never carrying this alone. May you finish the day knowing you were held.
