This evening prayer is for the people you work alongside, the ones whose faces you saw today across a desk, a meeting table, or a shared break room. It is meant to be prayed at the end of the workday, on the drive home, before bed, or whenever your mind keeps returning to the office. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Evening Prayer for My Coworkers

Lord, thank you for this day and for the people I shared it with. I bring my coworkers to you now, tired the way I am tired. Some of them carried heavy things today: a difficult phone call, a deadline that slipped, a family member who is not well, a bill they could not quite cover. Be near to each of them tonight. Let them set down what they could not finish and trust you with what they could not fix.

Father, where there was tension today, bring peace. Where words were sharp, bring gentleness and forgiveness, and help us each to take the first step toward repair. Guard their hearts and their minds as they drive home, as they sit down to supper, and as they lie awake. Give them rest that reaches deeper than sleep. Keep their families safe, their homes calm, and their bodies strong for whatever tomorrow asks of them.

Thank you that you see every person in that workplace, including the ones no one notices. Remind them that their work matters to you and that they are known by name. Let them wake tomorrow with a little more hope than they went to bed with. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my coworkers are on my mind tonight. Be with each one as they end their day. Give them rest, ease the worries they carried home, and keep them safe through the night. Let them know they are not alone and that you are caring for them. Bring them peace before the morning comes. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your coworkers as they settle in for the night. Ask God to grant them the kind of rest that does not depend on how well the day went. Picture each person lying down and being kept safe without having to guard themselves.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks this invitation to people who are weary and weighed down. Bring your coworkers to him by name, especially those carrying more than they have said out loud. Ask him to make the invitation real for each of them tonight.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

This verse invites us to hand over our burdens to the Lord. Name the specific worries you know your coworkers hold, such as money, health, or conflict at work, and ask God to take each one from them.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul writes about anxiety being replaced by prayer and thanksgiving. Pray that your coworkers would bring their worries to God rather than carrying them through the evening, and that they would experience a peace that steadies their thoughts.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

These words remind us that God’s mercies are new each morning. Pray that your coworkers would wake tomorrow aware of fresh grace, even if today was hard, and that they would meet the day expecting God’s faithfulness.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this at the end of your workday, perhaps in the car before you turn the key, or at the kitchen sink while your hands are busy. Keep a short list of coworkers’ names on a sticky note in your bag or on your phone’s lock screen so you remember who to include. Some people find it helpful to pray with one hand open on the table, a small reminder to release what they carried home.

You might also invite a friend, spouse, or small group to pray this prayer with you, especially for a colleague who is going through something hard. Praying together for people who may never know they were prayed for is one of the quiet ways God’s care reaches a workplace.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who watches over your coworkers keep them through this night. May they rest deeply, wake refreshed, and walk into tomorrow knowing they are loved and seen by God.
