This daily prayer for an expectant mother is written for the woman carrying a child, whether she is early in pregnancy, nearing her due date, or somewhere in between. It works well as a morning prayer before the day begins, or as an evening prayer before sleep when the body feels heavy and the mind will not settle. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words into the spaces it leaves open.

Daily Prayer for an Expectant Mother

Lord, thank You for the life growing inside me. Some mornings I feel wonder, and some mornings I feel only tired or afraid. Meet me in both. Steady my heart when the questions come about the baby’s health, about the birth, and about whether I am ready to be a mother. Help me trust that You know every small heartbeat and every detail of this pregnancy before I do.

Be near to my body as it changes. Ease the nausea, the aches in my back, and the restless nights. Give me rest when I can get it and patience when I cannot. Watch over the baby in these hours I cannot see, and let me feel Your peace when the house is quiet and the worries get loud. Guard my mind from comparing my pregnancy to anyone else’s.

Prepare my heart for the days ahead, including the labor and the first weeks after the baby arrives. Surround me with people who love me and who will help carry the load. Give my partner, my family, and my doctors wisdom and kindness. I place this day, this child, and every unknown into Your hands. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am carrying a child and I am carrying a lot of feeling today. Be with the baby and be with me. Calm my fear, steady my breath, and remind me that You are holding both of us. Help me take the next hour one step at a time. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 139:13-14

13 For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

Isaiah 46:4

Even to old age I am he, and even to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Yes, I will carry, and will deliver.

Read this slowly when the years ahead feel daunting. Ask God to carry you now and in every season of motherhood that follows.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Use this verse when fear rises before a scan or a long night. Let God’s presence and strength become the ground you stand on.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many women find it helpful to pray this prayer first thing in the morning, sitting on the edge of the bed or in a favorite chair before the day’s demands begin. Keep a cup of water or tea nearby, and rest one hand on your belly as you pray. That small, physical act can turn a list of worries into a conversation with God about the child you are already loving.

You might also invite your partner, a close friend, or your mother to pray it with you, or to pray it over you on the days you feel least able to pray yourself. Read it aloud together, then pause for a moment of silence before saying amen. Having someone else speak the words can be a gift when your own energy is low.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who knit this child together in the womb go before her and walk beside her each day. May He strengthen her body, quiet her fears, and fill her with a peace that makes sense in the middle of uncertainty. May the baby be held in safety, and may she rest in the love of the One who keeps every new life in His care.
